I love the smell of a campfire in the morning. In Uptown.

I have a neighbor whose husband is out there fighting one of the blazes. Said they've been working 24 hr days because there just isn't enough manpower.

Looks like most of the ones in the state are under control with the rain that has fallen. Drove through Macon County on Sunday and it was terrible.

But none of that comes close to what Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge has experienced over the past 24 hrs.

The pictures and videos out of Gatlinburg are just crazy. I'm really, really surprised that no one was killed. Anyone familiar with that area? I'm from over the mountain in Jackson County (NC), and it sounds like some of the old Gatlinburg staples like Hillbilly Golf, Mysterious Mansion, and some restaurants and hotels are gone. Not to mention the homes...

I am also really really surprised no one has been killed but for some reason unfortunately I feel like once they can check every place that will change. Sounds like at least 50% of the structures are gone thats gonna be tough to recover from.

Unfortunately you're probably right. They had a man on the news who can't find his wife and two little girls. He said there is "evidence" that makes it appear they escaped their home, which was destroyed.

Quote :
"Keith Eugene Mann said he used kitchen matches to start blazes near Jones Creek Road and Boardtree Road, the complaint alleges.
When Special Agent Brian Southard with the Forest Service asked Mann why he set the fire he responded, "I guess I was just bored," according to the complaint.
Later Mann said he "wanted to see something burn," adding that his wife recently left him and he didn't have "much to live for," court documents state."

Tha fuq? Goddamn hillbillies.

(Note: this particular fire I believe was one of the relatively less destructive ones. Def not ^ that level)

Anybody who starts a forest fire deliberately should be executed. I would say by burning to death, but that's too extreme and cruel.

Sever the jugular and carotid in one fell swoop.
