Amazon looks to the sky to store products
Quote : | "Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) has filed for a patent to use airships to store products and serve as a base for delivery-drones.
The patent application was filed two years ago but was spotted only on Wednesday by Zoe Leavitt, an analyst at technology data and research firm CB Insights.
According to the patent filing, drones launched from the so-called "airborne fulfillment centers" (AFCs) would use far less power than those launched from the ground.
The AFCs would hover at about 45,000 feet (13,700 meters) and be restocked and resupplied by "shuttles or smaller airships." bit.ly/2ihP1AU
Amazon, which was not immediately available for comment, has laid out plans to start using drones for deliveries next year." |
Patent

Ummm, that's very high. What about all the energy needed to launch them, keep them at that altitude and fixed in place, launch the restocking shuttles, etc?
This is crazy exciting. 12/29/2016 11:58:29 PM

Patents like this are bullshit, you shouldn't be able to patent things that are just ideas that you haven't and won't build 12/30/2016 7:08:36 AM

^^ they most probably won't, at least not in our or our children's lifetimes.
but then again, if you had told someone -- even nearly all scientists -- in he 1940's that a human was going to land on the moon within 30 years, they would have thought you were high af. 12/30/2016 12:54:32 PM
