Recruiting has never really been an issue. Gott has had how many top 25 classes? Sidney Lowe got talent here while barely making NIT bids.

There's no doubt its Sean and Archie Miller.

Bring both of them on...pair it with with Hodge now that he has some coaching ties and recruiting under his belt.

In all honesty, I think Archie would come, but we need to strike soon. Don't want to lose him by passing like we did with Sean

Has Archie ever said anything positive about nc state publicly? Or are people just assuming he might want to coach here because he played here? I get why the job might be attractive for someone like him, especially with K, Roy, pitino, and Boeheim all on their way out in a few years, but it's also pretty unattractive for a lot of reasons that I'm sure he's aware of. Not defending gottfried, but you're not sending a good message if you're willing to fire a guy who took 2 teams to the sweet sixteen in 4 seasons or whatever. If your star is still rising it just seems to me like you might be better off holding out for a better gig.

sure, i get that. but it's now been 6 seasons and that sweet 16 statistic is looking less impressive when the last 1.5 years have been so abysmal. and last year was somewhat excusable...freeman was never 100%, henderson was hurt all year, Lacey unexpectedly went pro. shit happens, sometimes things fall apart and a plan never materializes. and because of his prior 4 seasons, he should get a pass for that. but there is no excuse for this year's team not making the tourney. the most talented and deepest team he's had and they are playing with no motivation, no sense of direction, no toughness. if this season continues on this downward spiral, it is perfectly reasonable to move on from Gott...imo, he will have used up all of his good will that earned with those Sweet 16s. the talent level on this team is absolutely top 25 and the results are not remotely where they need to be.

there is still time to turn this around and make the tournament...but the clock is ticking on that.

^exactly... and I dont want any coach (no matter how big the name) that has any thought of possibly replicating what we've done the last 1.5 years.

so if any candidates think its harsh, then move onto the next one please.

I want a coach that hates to lose. Winning is easy, who doesnt love to win. Gottfried, right now, doesnt seem to hate losing the way we are. Hopefully thats not the case outside of what we see in the media.

just like with Doeren, Yow isn't going to fire anybody before she retires. it's also unlikely that a new coach will want to take the job when they don't have any idea who the new AD will be. Doeren and Gott both probably have at least two seasons left, like it or not.

which means it's time for her to step down now (like i posted in the other thread). if her scheduled retirement is hindering the long term progress of our program then her retirement should come sooner rather than later

Serious question: How many jobs do you think are better than NCSU basketball? 10? 20?

The only thing I could see is if he holds the same feeling that Sean did and that we did Herb wrong and he doesn't want to come because of that.

cause i needed a break at work. better jobs than ncsu in bball

1 duke
2 unc
3 kentucky
4 ucla
5 kansas
6 syracuse
7 arizona
8 michigan state (maybe,,, might just seem that way cause of izzo)
9 louisville (iffy)
10 uconn (iffy)

I mean that is my assumption of the generally accepted better jobs.

At the same time NC state in my opinion is not guaranteed the 11th spot and better than the rest. But it's on par with everyone else. And that answers the question of ...

Theres basically only 10 better gigs to hold out for. The rest are equal in prestige (i.e. texas's, maryland's, florida's and on and on)

^what was funny about it? care to share any insight?

are you one of those that says teams that are ranked ahead of others are better places to coach just cause they are currently doing better??? you realize choosing where to coach doesnt mean you get to keep their current coach... would you really rather coach at baylor or creighton if you had the option. just as institutions with a basketball program.
i mean am i getting through at all???

come on step up and say something

Nc state ranks lower than you think when you consider
1) very demanding fans
2) no recent success to speak of
3) 3 other local ACC teams to recruit against, 2 of which are powerhouses
4) a demand by (1) to semi-regularly defeat those powerhouses

If #2 is true then how is #1 true? Gottfried is the third highest paid coach in the ACC and he isn't even top half of the league as a coach. We are losing to teams that are lucky to have 2,000 people come to their games.

Syracuse is not a better job (private school in shit area with one head coach ever). Nor is UConn (shitty conference with little chance of that improving).

Obviously UL is. As is Indiana, UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, etc..

Louisville is a shitty community college commuter school but it has history, a great conference, great facilities and a shit ton of money to burn. It's a better job than us and has been since V left.

Alumnus or not, Archie is a good choice if we go that route. Hard to fathom his wanna be thug ass in college becoming the State head coach, but at this point it's time to start exploring replacement options.

It's funny because 2/3 on that list basically were the only people willing to take the job at the time. And the other best coach we've had in 20+ years in football.

But yeah, Sidney Lowe was a known quantity when we hired him. He was already a well established as a terrible head coach in the NBA.

we can't outrun and outgun teams loaded with talent like Duke and UNC. We a coach who runs a slower paced Princeston style offense that play good fundamental team defense to counter

That is just absolute bullshit. We were 8th in Attendance in the nation in fucking losing season last year.

8. North Carolina St. 18 301,646 16,758

What mid-major is better than an ACC school with 2 national titles hanging up in a 20,000 seat arena?

^^^^ depends on what you define as mid-major. NBE and American are technically mid-major but have teams that shame or at least equal our history and facilities.

I think conference prestige in this day and age does make a difference though.

^3 Don't roll your eyes. Herb actually recruited well, he had a number of MCD's players, and butt loads of talented 4 stars. Gottfried as taken it up a notch in recruiting to be sure, but it wasn't like Herb was getting all like ToBy 2 stars

Lee Fowler being a terrible AD and not knowing what the Hell he was doing has made many of you think this job is awful. Get that through your fat fucking skulls. Debbie's replacement has a chance to take over a top 25 athletic department.
