Yurt's still soft as fuck, he brought nothing to the table tonight (not the Anya would have...would've been a terrible matchup especially given the pace). Kapita played fantastic, and brought more energy and toughness than any big man has had all season for us. Again...you'll get no argument from me. I like when State wins and when State's players do well. So I'm very happy he had by far the best game of his career tonight. We wouldn't have won without him. Abu played a strong 2nd half, but he was pretty non-existent in the 1st half. This was also a terrible matchup for Anya...there are times when he's effective and absolutely deserves to be on the court. I take it you skipped right over the BC game where Anya was clearly our best post player on the court. yet again...i'm hardly arguing that Anya is some monster that needs 38 minutes/game. But Christ if you can't see how ineffective Yurtseven is, and even Abu at times (hell Kapita has had about 2 good games in his career)...and that Anya is actually an effective player in certain matchups then I really can't help you.

practicing poorly is the answer Gott gave, and that's pretty adequate. I have problems with Gott as a coach, but that's a totally legit reason to bench a player. if it sent a message, it clearly worked tonight.

and let's quit acting like Kapita's been doing this shit all year. he did this vs fucking St. Francis earlier and that's about it. otherwise he's been kinda meh all year.

christ. i'm not exactly backing down from my previous argument that Beejay has proven to, at times, be a better defensive option than any other big on our roster. Yurt's soft, Abu can't guard a 5, and Kapita hasn't ever played like he played tonight. if kapita can play on a level even close to what he did tonight, then yes...kapita deserves to play every minute of every game (till he fouls out).

i didn't realize the argument that beejay was sometimes a good defensive player and better than the other shit options was such a hot take.

Also to add on to dms point, w/out Anya we'd have a loss to Tenn St on our resume. Kapita was a no-shown in that game.

I'm curious which of Kapita's performances made you so sure he was so good? Illinois is like the only team inside the top 150 RPI that he played well against

I know this game isn't really a rivalry, but I always get way more excited about playing Duke than UNC. For whatever reason Duke games are often close and exciting, they are usually really fun to watch.

We have 4 serviceable bigs. Each have some upside and big negatives but all can contribute. I don't get arguing over who is better than who. They should all rotate and play so they have energy and make teams prepare for all since all 4 are very different on both ends of the court.

This team is lacking for sure but we have depth. Use it. I hate how it seems like Gott either loves you and you get all the minutes or he hates you and you are benched. There is no middle ground. We have 9 guys that should all get minutes. DSJ should play as many as possible and honestly the rest should all rotate and then ride the hot hands. So now Kap plays a ton and we never see Anya? That's dumb.

So one good win against a pretty bad Duke team and all of a sudden all is forgiven for this embarrassing group of players? These same players that had the second worse NC state loss ever, to UNC at that and then went on to lose to BC, GT, and Wake is now getting a huge welcome next to the bell tower for beating a coach K less Duke? I would understand if Duke was top 5 but they were number 17, wolfpack nation should not have given these guys that sort of a welcome.

I am sorry but you can't act like a big program and talk a big game and then embarrass yourselves for half a season. Good win sure but let's not be too quick to forgive a group of players that have consistently shown to be lazy and average.

we usually play Duke better. not that our record vs Duke is good...but it's better than our record vs UNC in recent years. under gott, it's seemed like the Duke games have always been exciting and fairly competitive.

so many chances for our team to quit last night, down by 10+ points, how many times have we seen that story.

Instead they went on some amazing runs and the defense in the 2nd half, while not perfect, showed a hell of a lot more effort.

Hopefully it leads to a tipping point for the team

Just saying. Its hard for me to give this team any credit because I was at the Dean dome until the clock hit 0. Would have forgiven that had we not gone on to embarrass ourselves even more at home to GT and Wake. I am not falling for it again this year.

I'll remind you guys that CJ Leslie and that team beat a number 1 (maybe 2?) Duke at PNC. That team went on to go to the sweet 16 and we were talking about wasted potential. Now compare that to what many thought was the best NC state team in a while coming into this year. This win just goes to show we had potential to be a good team but we won't even make the tournament.

Duke was wide open from 3 all night long, especially down the stretch. Just got lucky they were bricking them which is so unusual for dook. Not to say I'm not super stoked to beat Duke in Cameron for first time in decades. I'll take that win however I can get it of course.

But String together some wins (not Gonna happen). Get some momentum from this game(yea right, lol), and don't get blown out in next 4 games (WilL happen)

yeah our defense wasn't really that good. grayson allen was like 1/9 on 3PT shots...and most were very open

^^Yeah, our defense was bad about giving up open 3's, but the zone did keep them from driving into the paint as much in the 2nd half. Their whole offense is built around driving and dishing. Allen is an absolute beast at the rim too. The zone gave up open threes, but a lot of them were taken out of rhythm and taken deeper than Duke typically shoots because they weren't created off penetration.

I still think our players have no idea what they're doing in the zone most of the time, but I'll take it.
