the worst thing about this other than the people dying?

The_Trump subreddit spread the rumour -- "overheard on police scanner"-- that it was recent Muslim refugees who did it... and then it spread like wildfire all over the internet.

I am a member of Christian apologetic group on FB, and a couple of people even posted it there. I said no one one knows as no official info has been released by the police and that we should wait. No one cared, people fell left and right to that hoax and more and more people got roped in, and someone even called my post "a typical Muslim response".

Really saddened me more than it pissed me off, because it showed me at a micro level the kinds of attitudes that lead to terrorism, ideological killings, and even genocide.

This world is fucked.

I haven't gone back [yet] today to ask them to apologize/retract their lies and hoaxes from yesterday.

Apply the same feels to the actual hate crime hoaxes the left pulls on a regular basis... until then nobody cares internet trolls initially tricked a few people. It's not like Islam wasn't already assumed either way, and it's not like a small anecdotal case matters in the long term. At the end of the day the actual truth came out which is more than you can say for the leftist hate crime hoaxes that never get retracted.
