it's pretty obvious that when the Pepsi comes out we start jumping and then along with it go "ooooooooooooo" and get louder like "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" and then switch to "PEPSI! PEPSI! PEPSI! PEPSI! OOOOOO PEPSI! PEPSI! PEPSI! PEPSI! OOOOOOOOOOOO! DRANK PEPSI! DRANK PEPSI! DRANK THE PEPSI!" and then play a loud rockin rap song or somethin. i think it would get things crazy.

How about a snickers commercial where one cop is needlessly instigating a confrontation with a young black kid then starts to assault him and someone else walks up and is like, dude eat a snickers

Honestly, I don't see what people are so bent out of shape about.

I'm usually one of the people right-winger alpha dogs who call themselves libertarians in order to sound nuanced and unique but are still really just closet small minded bigots as per the past 50 years refer to as a SJW but this ad is nothing.

The ad is basically saying people should "join the conversation" and get out and start doing stuff / supporting causes in which they believe. At the end you see Jenner, who has naturally dark features, shun her very northern European blonde wig and join the protest. At the end she walks up to the cops and hands a Pepsi as a gesture, saying we're not so different. The cop accepts it, essentially letting his barrier down, and people rejoice. The ad is a clear throw back to recent stand offs with the police but the Pepsi moment is unmistakenly a reference to similar events documented in our nation's history of protests, including some so iconic that they were awarded the pulitzer prize.

Usually I'm on the side saying that people aren't just looking for something to complain about but this uproar really does make it seem otherwise.

A bunch of hipster beta males with nose rings and skinny jeans are rioting/protesting with BLM/Communist signs. The rioters knock over a Pepsi truck and thousands of pepsi bottles spill into the middle of the protest.

Everyone grabs a pepsi and suddenly instead of wearing flannel and skinny jeans, they are in a suit and tie. Instead of hipster beards and nose rings, they are clean cut. They drop their communist protest signs and pick up job applications from the stores they were looting. A Muslim woman drinks a Pepsi, and she takes off her Hijab. An illegal immigrant drinks a Pepsi, and reports himself to ICE.

Then Hillary Rodham Clinton walks out and the music stops... she's drinking a Coke. Donald Fucking Trump walks out, looks at her... says "Wrrrrrrong", shakes up a Pepsi bottle, and sprays it on her and she melts.

Have Hitler drinking a Pepsi.

Because Coke is the superior cola so obviously Hitler would drink the bad one.

Oh wait, I guess this would make a better Coca-Cola ad.

Donald Trump is giving a speech talking about how terrible everything in the world is.

Cut scenes showing meteors raining down, wars being fought, rape, police violence, etc.

A rebel force begins flying over Washington D.C. raining Pepsi down like the forest fire fighting planes.

Someone hands Trump a Pepsi. He drinks it and turns into Hillary Clinton.

Camera begins backing up until the view backs through a TV screen. Shot widens and you see Vladimir Putin sitting in a chair, watching TV, reaching for a Coke.

To be clear, Coke is by far superior.

It's always funny to watch brain-dead SJWs eat their own.

Unfortunately it's still more lucrative for corporations to cave in to false SJW narratives and identity politics... People on the left get triggered much more easily in general... so the corporations can cater to them while retaining customers on the right. Leftists are in outrage lynch mob mode 24/7, whereas right wingers do it much more rarely (though over equally stupid shit).

Or because you're not trolling around in the Mass Effect thread bitching about LGBT culture in your video games.

Medium shot on a dude standing in front of his freezer. The door is open, and he's putting ice into a glass. He's in short sleeves, a fan is running, the sun is very bright--it's a hot day.

He closes the freezer door. As he does this, we see in the background another dude carrying a very heavy box. He's sweating and straining as he lowers the box onto a pile. They must be moving in.

Cut to inside the fridge. Close on a row of frosty-looking Pepsi cans. The door opens, and our first dude takes a can.

Cut to the counter, close on the glass of ice. The ice has already softened a bit, and beads of water have condensed on the glass. We see the first dude's hands as he sets the can of Pepsi on the counter and opens the tab. Satisfying PSHT! SFX.

He pours the Pepsi into the glass. The ice shifts with an audible tinkle. Satisfying fizz SFX.

Cut to the second dude. He towels off his face, having moved another box. "Hey," he says, "would you get me a--"

Close on the first dude. He interrupts, completing the sentence: "Pepsi?" He offers the glass of cool liquid refreshment with a smile.

Mid shot on the two as the second guy takes the glass. Surprised, delighted, relieved, he takes a sip.

Fade in the tagline in the bottom. "Say it with a [Pepsi logo]."

Scene opens with Trump in front of the Pepsi store in New Bern. He's holding a flame thrower with the Russian flag on the side and begins setting the entire town on fire.

The good townspeople flee for their lives and just when it seems all hope is lost....

Cut to 100' tall Hillary Clinton emerging from the Pamlico River. She rips a water tower off a nearby building that has the Pepsi emblem on the side, she guzzles the contents. She then pulls a yuuuge dick out of her pantsuit and pisses the fire out.

Scene cuts back to Trump, now dripping wet with piss, he looks directly into the camera and says "reminds me of my stay at the St Petersburg Ritz Carlton"

Scene goes black except for the Ritz Carlton emblem.

without getting into every reason the ad is ridiculous, answer these two questions:

1) what are they protesting?

and

2) why do they get excited when the cop drinks the pepsi?

Jesus arrives at a party carrying a couple of cases of Coca Cola. As the cans are passed around everybody's like, "Jesus, What is this swill?" The party mob is outraged and Jesus is crucified.

Moments before his death on the cross, Jesus casts some Jesus Magic and turns the Coke into Pepsi. The new cans are passed around and it's a big hit.

"Guys, I think we were a little hard on Jesus"

Mary Magdalene gently removes Christ's body from the cross and moistens his lips with the Pepsi. Jesus resurrects and everybody parties happily ever after.

1. The protest is an example of the times we're living in, during which there is unrest that is met with displays of disobedience, such as protests. What the people in the ad are specifically protesting is of no consequence no more than the reason why an extended family is gathering at a large table in a Tyson's foods commercial. The protest in the ad is just symbolic of much that's going on in the world (not just the US). I could understand if the protest signs said "We need more soft drinks" or "Make soda not water" why one would question the protest itself but the connection and, perhaps even, homage was clear.

2. I think I answered this in my original post. It's because the cop's barriers broken down and he went from being part of a blue wall to being a human. It's not different than how people have responded in the past when flowers have been handed to cops at very similar points in protests.

I mean there are some obvious examples that are iconic to this nation's history

But this is a very common thing, so much so that you can easily find a collection of examples from around the globe.

that's a lot of words to defend such a dumb ad

reducing serious grievances into "hey guys, we're not that different. drinking this soda shows that. let's celebrate and stop this dumb protest" is just wrong

Quote :

this is the grossest point of your original post. "naturally dark features" and "very northern European blonde wig"??

she hands that wig off to someone with even darker features

At no point does the ad suggest the protest is ending. it shows the exact opposite. the protesters don't exactly go home at the end.

she also hands the wig to someone but doesn't say hey wear these.

you've basically taken a stance but haven't actually been able to refute anything. to me, it looks like you had a knee jerk reaction to the commercial, maybe because that's who you are or maybe just because everyone else did and you jumped on the bandwagon. based on the above it seems like a lot of people have taken the entire thing out of context. if you have actual points as to what is wrong with this commercial or how it wasn't taken out of contexts, especially given the points made thus far, I'm happy to hear them.

co-opting protests and the serious reasons why people protest and turning it into an ad for a soda company is wrong. it's that simple.

there's no such thing as a generic protest

the Jenner aspect of it is just absurd. the person who had no idea that there was a protest going on is going to be the hero of the ad? it's ridiculous.

^^Dude, the fact that you felt the need to remind us about those "iconic" moments in history is not good. Anybody who hates that ad is definitely familiar with those moments, and you should know that.

We all understand how powerful those moments/photographs are. That's why it's especially cheap to try to recreate them in a bid to sell soda. And, if you're gonna go that route, then you better get it right. Pepsi obviously didn't get it right:

Quote :
"The ad has been almost universally panned online. A tone-deaf take on “protest as brunch.” An absurdist parody of the long, unfinished project of civil-rights activism in America. A trivialization of today’s street unrest."

I suspect they knew as much, but they spent so much on the shitty ad, they released it anyway and took the publicity that they could get:

Quote :
"The genius of this decision is that it satisfies everyone. The Kardashian fanatics got their Kendall Jenner fix. The agitators get to feel that they have successfully redressed a big brand company; a minor victory in a time of so many defeats. The earnest, probably-white folk who enjoyed Pepsi’s alternative to constant politicization got their saccharine status-quo—and now they also get a branded excuse to issue a counter-offensive against the progressives who insisted on bringing politics into innocuous soft drinks (surely it’s coming). The media get their scoops, and their thinkpieces (like this one). And these outcomes, incompatible though they are, all return attention to Pepsi—which is all it really wanted in the first place."

I get that it is demeaning in its portrayal of protests as parties with drinks and jam bands, and I totally see how it is a disgrace to people that risked their lives walking up to cops in full riot gear just to give them a flower, but I don't exactly see what this has to do with racism. It seems like they have the races covered very well and kicked out all of the fatties.
