I think the Cavs are finally moving back to their style of play last year in the finals where they would isolate either Kyrie or Lebron on Curry and have him try and guard those two with screen and switches.

If they can continue to isolate Curry and make him play defense it disrupts GS. ""

Dude he's talking about switching Curry onto Kyrie/Lebron through pick and rolls. You didn't even read what you quoted.

It's not worth addressing the KERR SUCKS talk when you are comparing him to Luke Walton (first full year as head coach), Mike Brown (fired 3 times, twice by the cavs), Mark Jackson (hasn't been offered a job despite being out of work for 3 years), and Alvin Gentry (again, fired 3 times).

I knew what he was saying and its a forced narrative that doesn't apply to Kyrie's game 4. 3 of Kyrie's 40 points were scored on curry. Its a good thing I have the video or you guys would be able to get away with banding together to tell a hogwash story. Watch Irving's game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKihXX9KVNU
Its not that Curry is good at defense, its just not the narrative that matches with game 4. Most of those Irving points were scored in isolation against Thompson who is considered a great defender.

Yeah, you right. In game 4, Curry only allowed 3 of Kyrie's 40 points. However, as a general rule of thumb, GSW do not want Curry to guard Kyrie. He shot like 20% better against Curry in the finals last year vs his average in the finals as a whole.

Kyrie has scored on Mccaw everytime . They need to try something different. Switch Durant onto him and let Klay guard Lebron.

cavs may still end up losing, but they are the fun ones to watch when they play this type of defense. durant has been invisible so far this game.

Kyrie got a BS foul call and dribbled off his foot the last two times McCaw was guarding him...not to mention the four step lay-up on that first bucket. So not really..

And Lebron just posterized poor Durant.

Not sure what was more impactful on the Warriors' win: Kerr's X's and O's genius, or the rampant steroid and PED usage by both teams.

golden state def a nice team in terms of passing/ team defense, I'm not sure why I rooted for the cavs so much; a lot of iso stupid defensive mistakes; I think I've reached the point where i would cheer for the pre durant golden state, just not this super team

Hot take: he should never win MVP bc if he was as good at leading and facilitating as they say then Durant would be there

Braindead Cavs fans calling KD a pussy for leaving OKC to chase a ring. Funny how they forgave Lebron for ditching them to win b2b rings and coming home to build the most expensive roster in th NBA while winning 1/3 titles since his return. I hope the Ws win 4/5

what Cavs fan gave KD shit for signing with the Warriors?

pretty positive they never booed him whenever he had the ball during any game in Cleveland

and you gotta be a real ignorant asshole to attempt to shit on Lebron after that Finals performance. it's ok to tip your hat to an opposing player, especially after that 5 game effort.

Durant chased the easiest title in NBA history (although Cleveland made it a tad difficult...the series never was in doubt). Give credit to him because he played his nuts off...but it was still a bitch move.

Takeaways from the series...

- Durant is the best scorer in the game. He might go down as one of the best in history. How do you guard a 6'10" guy with handles and a release like that? Just not fair. To make it even worse...how do you guard a guy like that with two other shooters who are just as good on his flanks? Nightmare

- Lebron is the best in the game. MJ cock gobblers will hate on him for losing this series, but he put up 34, 12, and 10 on 56% shooting against probably the best team ever. He had some "I don't care" defensive lapses, but he tried to man-up Durant more than I thought and probably did the best job of anyone (which isn't saying much...because Durant torched everyone). He was also the only Cav that showed up every game. He normally throws up a clunker a series...but I think you could see that he took this as a challenge and didn't falter.

- I don't know if Kyrie will ever "get there". He's probably the second best scorer in the game behind Durant (his finishing is just nuts)...but he definitely relies on that and forces it too much too often. He killed them in the 4th quarter. Without Lebron, they get drilled by 30 in that final quarter. I read a lot of articles before the series about how Lebron is close to handling the team over to Kyrie...I felt like that transition got knocked back a year after this series. Just don't know if he'll ever be able to lead a team as the primary guy (at least a very successful team)

- Obviously the series could have been closer, but it could have swung the Cavs way a couple of times and I feel satisfied as a fan that wanted a great series. Cavs blew game 3. So that obviously changed everything. And even last night, the game was in doubt in the 4th until Durant went nuts and no one on the Cavs (save Lebron and Smith) could do anything productive. I also think if the refs call the blatant foul on Durant (when Lebron gave him a facial), that changes the entire 2nd quarter. Durant gets #3 and has to sit. That was right when the Warriors went on that crazy run (spear-headed by Durant) and went up 18. Cavs go into the half with a lead or close to even and it's also a different game (as well as KD having to play with 3 fouls to start the 2nd half).

Lots of "ifs" in there...but after the first two games...the Cavs definitely stepped up their game and made it competitive.

Don't really know what the Cavs can do going forward. Maybe cross their fingers and hope Durant tries to pull a Lebron and go back home to DC and try to win a title. He gets his mercenary championship and then tries to prove himself for the home town fans (it would definitely make the East a lot more interesting).

Love didn't do shit and Kyrie wilted in the 2nd half. I still think you're okay with Smith...he's at least giving you more good games than bad...and you don't need to lean on him (unless everyone else is blowing it). Deron Williams was a complete failure. I think maybe they can get more out of Korver now that he'll have a year under his belt with Lebron and the system. I think if you can upgrade Deron for a better veteran backup PG and maybe switch Shumpert out for a similar defender than can actually be a threat from the 3-point line...then you have a better shot against the Warriors (don't know if that's possible...I feel like Shumpert is locked in with the Cavs). The biggest positive from this series is it looks like Lebron is not ready to decline any time soon. Fucking beast.

I mean...I guess it depends on your definition of a Super Team. Adding the 2nd best player in the league to the best team ever (73 wins)...that's a super team.

Lebron went to non-playoff teams. In Cleveland he went to a lottery team and added another player (Love), who had never been to the playoffs. The Heat were close to a Super Team...but I think we all saw that they weren't near as dominant as the Warriors. The Warriors one the championship two years ago, were a few points away from winning the previous year, and they had just won a record 73 games that same year. That's super.

Lebron probably could have worded it better...but its easy to see that the situations are pretty different.

Eh.

Warriors have two top 5 players and another top 15.

Cavs have a top 5...maybe a top 15 (Kyrie is dynamic..but I think this series highlight that's he's not an elite NBA player yet)...and maybe a top 25.

And the Warriors 4th player is arguably the top defensive player in the league and probably the most versatile two-way player.

Pretty big difference.

well obviously there's a big difference, the warriors are arguably the greatest NBA team of all time. that doesn't change the fact that LeBron has been the architect of 2 different "super teams".

Not necessarily disagreeing with you...I just think you have a broader definition of a "super team".

I think the Warriors are the only "super team". They lost one game the entire playoffs and added the second best player in the league to a 73 win team.

Lebron assembled great teams with all-star casts...I just wouldn't call any of them "super". The first championship team he had with the Heat was probably the most dominant (the last two Cleveland teams were probably better...they just ran into better teams in the Finals).

^

Ray Allen averaged 10 points a game for the Heat. He was coming off the bench as a spot-up shooter at that point in his career. Nice try.

If you take Lebron off of his "super-teams" and they are 6-8 seeds at best. You take Durant off the Warriors and they are still in the finals (although the Cavs probably repeat). I don't think there is any real comparison here.

Quote :

Agree with everything you wrote, but I can't imagine how Korver can be more effective next year. He was a complete zero on defense (it was 4v5 for the Cavs any time he was on the floor) in the finals and he had plenty of open looks but couldn't hit a damn thing. I could see him put up better regular season numbers maybe, but they could barely afford to have him out there in the finals.

Unfortunately, the Cavs are fairly locked into their lineup unless they manage to get something in return for one of the two semi-tradeable assets they have-- Love (who had a good playoffs) or Thompson (who is on a ridiculous contract for his skill).

I'd love to see the Spurs make a move this off-season (Chris Paul? Blake?). It seems like they have the best chance of upending this Warriors team next year.

he'll forever be known as a wearer of ring(s), which is what the basketball world decided to make the end all be all by making fun of Charles Barkley for never winning a championship for years

he's also made it clear that he went to Golden State for reasons other than winning. I'm not gonna shit on an athlete for choosing the best possible fit/situation for themself.

Korver would have been worth more in the series if he was a better offensive threat.

While he was bad defensively...he wasn't that much worse than the rest of the Cleveland team.

Not necessarily grasping at straws...but I just think it's something that could be improved going into next year. He's a career 43% 3 pt shooter and he shot 31% in the finals. I mean...his missed wide open corner three in Game 3 puts them up 5 with a minute and a half...instead he clanks it and Durant turns around and hits a dagger.

Cleveland still needs shooters. So if you can replace him with another similar shooter (he tore it up at 49% 3pt in the regular season) who plays a little more D...then so be it. If not...you just hope he has a better playoffs next year.

I guess I do. But I still think that Heat team was one. Three top flight free agents signing with one team was and still is unheard of, it's the definition of a super team.

Obviously none of them are going to be as good as the Warriors (for multiple reasons.) But again, most of that goes back to roster building and how GS put together that team (which as I said before wasn't "lucky" besides the Curry early career injury problems.) Drafting stars >>> signing FA/trading for them. It's why I think some other eastern conference teams have a better chance of toppling the Warriors than Cleveland in the future.

maybe i'm not as in-tune as some of y'all are...i'm just a part time/casual NBA fan. but is this really a big deal? we all knew how great KD was when he was in OKC. so yeah, he left OKC to get a ring. but does it really change how we view his "legacy"? dude was easily one of the best players and scorers in the NBA before he went to GSW and we all knew it and acknowledged it then.

and since so many people simply trot out "how many rings has so and so won" or "MJ has more rings than LeBron", it seems like we've accepted that as a very legitimate metric. so who can blame him? he'd already established himself as a dominant, prolific player prior to leaving OKC.

Yeah...KD is just as good now as he was when he was with OKC. He's just surrounded by better shooters in a better system...so it might appear that's he's now this amazing player...but in reality, he was always amazing.

I don't really have a problem with the "super team" approach, hell most of the major dynasties were "super teams" with multiple All-Stars/HOFers.

My problem is Lebron CREATED 2 Superteams by going to teams with 1 player and picking which guys he played with and brought them in.

KD joined an existing "super team" and just made a historically great team even better. It definitely helped that KD was the star of the team and not just riding them to a championship.

Warriors should win the next 2 barring injuries. Will be curious to see if any teams actually make big moves to compete now or if they all pull a Boston and just focus on sticking to their plans and waiting it out for the Warriors to break up in 2-3 years.

Aside from leaving their team I simply don't see much other similarity in what LBJ and KD did. LeBron would have been dumb to not leave Cleveland, at the time they were simply content putting a bad team around him and making money off of just people wanting to watch him play each night. He was keeping them too good to get any decent draft picks, and the owner wasn't bringing in talent either. If he had stayed there he just becomes Barkley on the Suns, until he is old and has to try and chase a ring late in his career.

LBJ joins the Heat with a roster that had won 47 games the season before, and was willing to bring in talent. But it wasn't a roster that was already tearing it up/had a championship. Returning back to Cleveland the roster is better than when he left because they were bad enough to get Kyrie, and now the owner is willing to actually spend money to help him win. But again not a championship type roster yet. In 2011 after LBJ left Cleveland the remaining roster won 19 games. That team was terrible.

KD leaves a team that was a game away from the finals and without him won 47 games this year. If KD stays and that roster could have given the Warriors and Cleveland all they could handle and I think have won it. If Cleveland had the relative talent as OKC did when LeBron left he never would have left Cleveland in the first place.
