"It’s not shocking to find Senior Defensive End Bradley Chubb on this list, but it is worth noting that he received the highest grade of anyone on the Week 4 Team of the Week. Chubb had 7 tackles (3 for loss), 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 4 QB Hits, and 8 QB Pressures."

The guy absolutely railroaded the FSU Oline on multiple plays. Very fun to watch!

You mean he’s better than Marcus Stone?

Maybe it’s just because I was in school from 2002-2006, but Mario Williams will always be the best DE I ever saw play for the Pack and certainly that makes him the best to wear #9. I still remember him nearly breaking that Maryland QB in half at home in 2005.

Went to school during 2002-2006 as well, Williams was awesome but took a ton of plays off.

I think you could put them as 1a and 1b at this point

^feel like top 10 would be a safe bet. he was #8 in a mock CBS Sports had the other day. don't think it's far fetched for him to play his way into top 5.

Chubb is making himself quite a bit of money the last 3 weeks. He went from 2nd round projection last year, late 1st round projection to start the season, now I'd say he's easily in the top 15 picks, most likely looking at being the #1 DE on the board if he keeps this up.

Mario is still #1, I mean look at how close their stats are, and then remember Mario left early.

^also remember that mario rarely had a big game against big time opponents. He would get 4 sacks against Mcneese state, and then next week against an ACC opponent he would disappear.

Mario's years were in my Heyday as well, and I look back fondly on that time, but I think Chubb is the better college player.

If Williams played 4 years like Chubb his sack/TFL stats would be crazy.

Mario had some big games against ACC opponents his final year, he had 3 sacks against Wake and 4 against Maryland.

I'll say Chubb is a better run-stopping DE, but I think Mario was a better pass-rusher.

I still think Chubb is about to be another All-American and top 10 DE draft pick out of NC State.

Still don't understand why FSU tried to block him one-on-one the entire game. It'll be interesting to see how he plays against ND and Clemson when he's going against projected 1st round OTs.

Look, I'm glad he got the award. Its good for the program but I'm going to speak my truth on this.

i have so many dvr clips of him taking plays off (hands on hips) and doing low character nonsense.
-spitting on the fsu logo
-towelgate
-starting shit vs unc
-talking shit nonstop

. Its a stat-based awards and most of his sacks came at inconsequential times or sacking FSU. Everybody sacks FSU.

1 forced fumble (vs bc)
10 sacks: (0 vs usc, clemson, wake, pitt)

Offenses go away from the defenders that are truly the best, not allowing them to get the stats.

If you subscribe to the idea that our 3 other linemen are all pros but think they are doubling chubb or something, someone on the line should be producing if Chubb is really the best, right? Wrong.

Wake : 0 team hurries
Clemson: 0 team sacks (gave up 89 yard run)
ND: 0 hurries (318 rushing yards)
USC: 1 sack by street (safety blitz)

Hard to win when your defense gives up 30 and its hard to stop the pass when your dline doesn't lay a finger on the qb. I'm not saying they aren't good, because they were great in some games, but I don't see how you can say he is the best when he had major lapses in all of the big games.

This is what happens when you use meaningless, raw stats for comparison purposes instead of looking at adjusted stats. Some people make the excuse that our defensive efficiency is bad because of the secondary but the dline stats are bad too!
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaadl
Adjusted line yards: 33rd
Adjusted sack rate: 70th
Pass downs sack rate: 70th

^i don't recall chubb taking many plays off at all. the rest of what you said about the defense is pretty true. our d (particularly dline) didn't live up to expectations.

congrats to chubb...damn impressive season (and career) by him.

I actually think statistically Chubb had a better season last year, but his effect on the field was clearly greater this year.

Teams literally schemed against him, running away from him, quick passes, QB roll outs away from him, chipping with TE/RB, etc.

Looking at his stats from his worst 4 games, yeah, seems like a good sample to take, haha.
Clemson - 1st round LT.
ND - 1st round LT. Offense didn't pass it much and ran away from him.
USC - schemed away from him and 1st game of the season. He had Bentley running for his life and was being held a LOT.
Wake - Offensive scheme doesn't lead to giving up a ton of sacks.

You can't just erase his better games and chalk them up to terrible OLs and not throw out the quick passing offenses that are setup to negate bad OLs and pass rush(UNC, Cuse, Wake). Tons of 1st round talent players in the ACC on the DL went up against most of those same OLs and didn't put his stats up.

Hell the back-breaking ND play where Adams gashed us for the 50+ yard TD, Chubb wasn't even on the field(neither were 2 of our other DL rotation guys who were hurt).

I agree that I didn't like his immature antics at times, but I actually think a lot of that was to help build buzz/discussion around him and get his name out there. I can agree his extra stuff was unnecessary and grew tiresome(esp. the towel deal), but you can't question his production on the field. He was the main reason our D was even average.

In regards to the Alabama DB, how are you going to win best defensive player in the nation when you can’t even win best defensive player in your own conference?
