Not #16 Notre Dame? Or after they take down USC next week, #10 Notre Dame?

I haven't seen all the new polls yet, but at least the Coach's poll has NC State at #17.

this is a sweet 16 playoff game that will put the winner 1 win away from playoff position.

I think you're right. Coming off their bye week, they play USC this week, which is a huge rivalry game, and I'm willing to bet they spent the vast majority of the extra time prepping for USC. Whether they win or lose, they might have a bit of an emotional hangover and hopefully have a harder time getting up for us the following week anyway.

Also, I think it’s hilarious that Notre Dame moved up from #21 to #13 after winning against UNC and their bye week. If they lose to USC that could take the air out of their sails while we go in jacked up and ready to play. If they win, that also takes USC out of CFP contention (yeah, i'm getting way over my skis thinking about that, but hell a guy can dream...)

anyone else going up there for the game? I'm heading up there with a few friends and staying in chicago, also hoping to catch a WS game if the Cubs make it (though that's looking less and less likely now)

^I'll be making the trip. Last year WS tickets were $700 a pop if you won tickets in the lottery system(or so I've been told). Some of the bars right around Wrigley apparently had $200 covers as well.

It's more about what NC State team shows up versus any type of hangover that ND has. If they beat USC they're going to be right in the thick of things for the CFP, so I don't see them coming out flat at home. If they lose to USC, there chances at the CFP are basically gashed but we beat them last year and there is the revenge factor to hang onto.

I'm still holding out hope that ND wins and ESPN chooses South Bend for Gameday for our game.

ND offense is heavily skewed towards the run, we have one of the best run defenses in the country. Should be an interesting strength vs. strength matchup.

I mean we're a top 10 run D statistically, but how many strong rushing teams have we played? UL puts up good rushing stats, but outside of that?

Lamar Jacksons - 28th
FSU - 83rd
Syracuse - 84th
Marshall - 88th
Pitt - 113th
South Carolina - 114th

I'm sure you can attribute some of their rankings to us, but not that significant of drops. ND is going to be the best rushing attack we see this season, and I don't think it's going to be close(Clemson is #2 at 24th).

I think clemson D is a good barometer

Our run D vs Cuse was better than Clemson's

Our run D was Lou was equivalent to clemson's

Now obviously that's looking in a vacuum but same for the stats posted above.

Can't figure who I want to lose in that game. While Notre Dame winning would help our SOS, but riding a W into a top 25 game. Naw.

Other than that. We are built defensively to shut down the run and make them throw. It should be a fun one, a chess match in a way.

I worry with NCSU kicking game. Big time.

Wonder if that analytics company does real time streaming analytics like NFL does and if it goes into kicking or going for it/fg or just plays to run.

from the article that giglio wrote, i don't think it's real time and constantly updating, if that's what you mean...but they have a sheet of every imaginable scenario (time remaining, down and distance, score, etc) that is opponent-specific. and it would definitely take into account kicking the fg or going for it. and if it's opponent-specific, i'd guess it's also specific to our offense and special teams.

i'm not sure it tells you which plays to run...it pretty much only does the kick/go for it thing. coaches have to decide the plays

Saw the post comparing our D to Clemson, I'd say this is a better way to look at the ND game.

UGA's rush D: #5.
NC State's rush D: #7.

ND against UGA: 37 carries, 55 yards, 1 TD(QB)

That is what we're going to have to accomplish to beat ND, force their QB to throw the ball(he went 19/39 against UGA).

I don't think our D is as good as UGA(easily top 5 D in the NCAA), but they've certainly laid the blueprint. Crazy that ND has 2 OL projected to be 1st round picks(OG and OT).

Chubb is going to have an opportunity to make a lot of money the next 2 weeks going up against 2 projected 1st round LTs.

So we need to hope their QB gets hurt or a hurricane hits South Bend.

They would have gotten smashed even if Holiday didn't get hurt. That was one of the best, if not the best, offensive unit in State history.

This Notre Dame team is coached by the same Brian Kelly who thought it was a great idea to keep throwing 20 yard passes in a hurricane.

Hard to say this ND team is overrated at this point. We'll see how they play this week but I'm honestly not sure a depleted USC team(their injury report looks like UNC) is going to tell us too much.

I honestly can't argue with how great any offense PRiv was on. We're QBU and it's still not even close who the best QB we've had is.

Our offense is clearly better this year. We gain more yards, turn the ball over less, and score about the same amount of points. We will have a maximum of 3 losses as well.
