^I mean I'm not saying it's not possible to have a good season without beating UNC but unless you're finishing ranked or with a division title I'd probably take the UNC win.

I'd take a 6-6 season with a UNC win over an 8-4 season with a UNC loss. 9 wins is probably the threshold where I can live with the UNC loss.

yeah - i wanna beat unc more than i wanna beat bc. but i'm just not in the camp where it's only a successful season if we beat them. and my main point was, the trope that unc fans say "they'd rather go 1-11 than 11-1 if it means beating unc" is definitely not true in my experience with fellow state fans.

also..years of trash talk for one win over unc? i think it is good for trash talk until the next season when we play 'em. then you re-up and talk more trash or you lose and eat crow. but i'm lucky and interact with like 95% state fans in my work/family/friends.

but....fuck unc. boots to asses.

Yeah I mean I don't want to be lunatic fringe here but rivalry games do matter more.

Its just if we are not playing for a championship of any kind and going to just a basic bowl, I'd rather have a UNC win than a better record within that set of parameters.

I wouldn't say I'd take a 2-10 season with a UNC win over a 10-2, but between 6-8 wins its all the same at the end of the day what your season ultimately was.

Remember RW threw that amazing 2-yard hail mary to Owen Spencer to beat a ranked UNC team, and then everybody felt pretty good about a really shitty season?

UNC's opponents were inspired by our fans wanting them to beat UNC and that's what carried them: the transmission of positive vibes. This is what cost us the division all those years we were 3-5, 4-4, or 5-3.

Also, after realizing the role these vibes played, you need to cite more stats in your argument.

^^ the year we needed to beat Maryland to win the division (Torrey Smith torched us) we were in that position because UNC and beaten FSU the week before (or two weeks maybe) to prevent fsu from clinching. So that’s the only example I can remember

Since 2010, UNC has played ~9 games that had Atlantic title implications at the time of the game. None of them ended up deciding the Atlantic but you never know if an early ACC loss will affect the final standings. It usually comes down to 1 game.
