I haven't seen IW yet, but based on trailers and what I've heard I'm assuming these are the most necessary films to have seen in advance:

Avengers 1 & 2
Civil War
Ragnarok
Guardians 1
Doctor Strange
Black Panther

I won’t get into any spoiler talk yet, but here’s my thoughts just after watching it. My expectations were almost certainly way too high, and it was a good movie, but it wasn’t what I wanted it to be, and I’m a little disappointed. There was some really great humor, but way too much cg bullshit that wasn’t always necessary (Thanos’ female minion was of normal size and could have easily been done with practical makeup, but seemed to be all cg)

Badass movie.

Thor and Iron Man got huge powerups, Vision got a huge nerf

I have only one small gripe with this movie...also can we stop with the spoiler warnings at this point? You shouldn't be clicking on a thread for a movie you haven't seen yet

** SPOILER **

It's kind of anti climactic to "kill" a bunch of characters like that when we know they have movies scheduled to come out in the next couple of years. It is and probably will be even more so later an interesting plot point, but as the final set of moments it's much less emotional than I think it's supposed to be. IMO just taking out the few of them that are obviously going to need to be resurrected for their upcoming movies would have been more effective

I think the only movie that's really been announced/confirmed is the next Spider-Man.

Yeah although a bunch of them died, all it would take is one good guy getting ahold of the Time Stone and rewinding time. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal when you realize that Dormmamu killed Dr. Strange like thousands of times in his standalone movie and he just rewound each time he did.

Loki and Gamora and probably Vision I could see as being dead for good since their deaths were more than just finger snap/dust. Gamora's soul or something could be in the Soul Stone though.

But it cheapens all these deaths for somebody to just hit a reset button. There's no way Marvel is going to let its now most-profitable character (Black Panther) die unceremoniously along with 7 or 8 other minor Avengers.

Perhaps the core Avengers get it in the next one, and some of the minor ones come back?

With the time stone though, the time incantations were the hardest to learn, right? And the only one that knew them also became avenger dust.

In the comics nebula takes the gauntlet from thanos and undoes the damage he did.

I'm guessing that the MCU's Adam Warlock and Captain Marvel (obviously) play into the story line as well. I think Gamora is still alive and can be brought back from the soul stone. In the comics Adam Warlock can enter and exit the soul stone as he pleases.

Also, can't remember his name, but Dr. Strange's buddy at the New York Sanctum (or any of the other sorcerers in the other sanctums around the world) might be able to do the time incantation if they are still alive?

Regardless, Spider-Man has another movie coming out so unless it is set before the events of this one (which doesn't seem to make much sense chronologically), so we know that he is at least coming back.

My thoughts: Avengers 4: Hawkeye and Ant-Man save the universe!

SPOILERS

It seems clear to me at least that Thanos is going to be the hero that turns back time. All the setup with humanizing his character and his backstory. He was driven to save the Universe by creating death and destruction. He is going to witness that his actions actually didn't fix the Universe, and in many important ways made everything worse. He'll then realize that it was he and his followers that caused the war that actually destroyed his home planet, not overpopulation per-se. He'll realize he lost everything he loved for nothing, and turn time back to get his daughter back. After-all, the credits said Thanos will return. I think this means he is going to be the hero of the next story.

There’s another guardians of the galaxy confirmed...add to that strong rumors of Doctor strange 2 and the fact that they’d be nuts to not make another black panther...that’s like at least half the characters that turned to dust

I was also aware that there are future movies in play that would make the deaths seem less dramatic.

I still got the feels when it happened tho.

With the Guardians though that's always an ensemble cast, so who knows what combination of current Guardians (if any) would be in future movies.

^Rocket is the only Guardian that wasn't turned into dust. Nebula too if you want to count her. But for all we know, Thor or one of the other Avengers might join the Guardians for their next movie or something.

You can make little nuanced arguments like that but it's fairly safe to assume they aren't making another Spiderman, Dr. Strange, or Black Panther without those 3 characters/actors. If you agree with that, you can also feel pretty safe to assume most of the Guardians that turned to ash will also be coming back.

You can also disagree with me and say that you don't know any of this and you cried like a baby when they all died. But personally, I was far, far more emotionally struck when Tony died for a minute, because I'm not aware of his contract situation and haven't heard of any more Iron Man movies coming out

Spoiler?

I appreciated Thanos's character development in this movie. I was expecting another generic bad guy based on the extent of his cameos in the past, but this has me hopeful that they will end the second movie similar to how the comic ended.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't so much a full, coherent movie as it was a series of loosely related events depicting how Thanos gets all the gems while MCU characters meet and learn about one another. With all that was done in this movie, we could have ended up with a catastrophe like Avengers 2, so I am happy with what we got.

I'm surprised they didn't include anything about him getting the purple stone from Nova Corps. He just already had it. I guess if they did include it though, it would have been pushing 3 hrs.

Didn't they tease Adam Warlock in the post credits scene of Guardians 2? I wonder where/how he'll factor into all this? I know how he factored into things in the comics. I wonder if they'll go Infinity Watch?

The IG can rewrite all of reality. Why rewind time when you can just undo things in an instant. Kill half the universe with the snap of your fingers, resurrect half the universe with the snap of your fingers. No time travel needed.

Then, when they rewrite reality they can cast whatever actor they'd like for the roles and write it off as infinity crisis weirdness. They want Nicholas Cage to replace Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man? Infinity crisis weirdness.

Captain Marvel is obviously the hero of the next story. And I'm guessing all the turned-to-dust folks plus Gamora are floating around inside the soul stone. I felt zero emotions during any of the deaths. Loki happened too early to have any stakes (I would have had to watch all his previous movies in a row right into this one to be in that state of mind) and the others were in too mass number.

"A single death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic."

Plus the two I expected to die and I was set to be emotional about both lived.

^Totally. Spidey almost had the gauntlet off! If Star Lord had just cooled his jets for like 30 more seconds before he started throwing punches, it would have all been over!

Sidenote, I did read an interesting theory earlier. When Dr. Strange was meditating and Tony asked him what he was doing, he said he was looking into all of the future possible outcomes and that out of something like 14 million of them, there was only one where they were successful in stopping Thanos. When he gave Thanos the Time Stone to spare Tony's life, Dr. Strange said "It was the only way". Perhaps this implies that in the one successful outcome, it is absolutely essential that Iron Man lives and somehow, even after Thanos getting the stones, they are still able to defeat him. Why else would he give Thanos the stone, after outright telling Tony to his face that he would sacrifice both him and Spider-Man to keep Thanos from getting it?

Correct, everything that Dr Strange did, he did for the one outcome. There's no way the core Avengers make it through the next movie intact. And their deaths will be made permanent.

What was with Hulk's performance anxiety? Was it just one of those had to make it easier for the good guys to lose kind of thing? Hulk got his shit handed to him at the beginning so it wasn't like Thanks couldn't handle him.

Hulk was scared. It was the first time he had ever been completely outclassed.

I absolutely loved that they skipped the marvel studios fanfare and went straight into the Asgardian distress call. It set the tone immediately.

^^And then we get to all wonder where she was for the first invasion in New York, Hydra taking over shield, Sarkovia falling out of the sky...just like how we know Wonder Woman helped win WWI and then did nothing to stop WWII from happening.

Hulk's strength is fueled by his anger. He can be beaten before he gets the chance to get angry enough to be stronger than his opponent. Granted, you'd think the way the Asgardian ship was already decimated, that he would have been angry and strong enough to put the screws to Thanos.

But yeah, Hulk is scared. I imagine that something will trigger him back into the fight the next time around.

Even though I keep hearing whispers about her getting a movie, I kind of think the only thing that might be able to snap Hulk out of it will be ScarJo getting killed. That'll Hulk rage him out.

Her origin movie will take place in the '90's. IW 2 will not be her origin, just her intro, kinda like how they introduced Spider Man in Civil War then went on to have his "origin" movie.

The Captain Marvel origin movie is coming out 2 months before Avengers 4. We'll find out who she is and what she does, then boom she'll show up and help fix everything.

Except there was a 50% chance she herself would be dust, so there will have to be some convenience written in.

^^^That's the theory for Ant-Man and Wasp, that they'll be in the quantum realm and technically already not exist.

^^No, never has been. People seem to like him in Game of Thrones but I've disliked him since his stint on Nip/Tuck, and he was terrible his one episode of 30 Rock.
