Comes out in 5 months.

Zero marketing, firing of Lord and Miller, reshoots, etc...does not bode well.

I don't know man, I get that he's pretty talented, but I think it's bad casting.

Wonder why this isn't getting a December release date?

When do teasers usually start dropping?

Have you even seen Atlanta? He's quirky but he's very talented. Honestly I think it would be interesting if Lando had an awkward stage in an origin story

Admittedly, I have not. I know him from Community, the Martian, and his standup.

He seems pretty talented, but just wouldn't have been my choice for first casting. The actor from Creed would have been good.

You can't tell anything about the quality of this movie based on the trailer, which I'm still pretty skeptical about, but it looks absolutely gorgeous.

New Star Wars has been on point with their cinematography.

I don't understand, at the end of the video above, it says "Trailer tomorrow"

What does that mean, is what I just watched not the trailer?

They didn't want to pay for a nearly 2 minute SB ad, plus they want people to tune in to GMA on ABC, which is owned by Disney, to watch the full trailer.

Rogue One isn't about the Skywalkers. Probably why it's so good.

The actor playing Han - while he was talking I just didn't get a Han vibe.

And the timeline here, there only can be what, 7 years, maybe 10, between this movie and A New Hope? Either Han is a very sloppy keeper of vehicles, or that white padding just attracts a lot of dirt and wear. Unless the pictures we see of the MF are when Woody's character has it.

Edit: Why couldn't they have just let Harrison Ford act it and then just give him the Marvel treatment?

great point. I never thought about it til watching this guy commentate about the movies on twitch one day and he started talking about how the star wars movies will never reach their potential until they get away from the skywalkers

Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure wasn't about the Skywalkers. I bet it was awesome too. I might track down a copy.

The time period is Han from age 18-24.

If we go by Harrison’s age in 1977 which he was 35. So this is roughly set 17-11 years before ANH.

Ford has been "done" with Star Wars since ESB. He really wanted Solo to be killed off early in RotJ (if not already dead in carbonite). They keep throwing larger checks at him to get him back (re: TFA). There is no way for them to throw a check large enough at him for a one-off filler film, especially as this one feels like its getting pushed despite other issues.

So if Han was 29 in ANH, this will be 11-5 years before ANH.

"I've got a good feeling about this."

Nice way to turn the line on it's head.

This almost feels like a western set in space. I like that they are finally trying out some new genres within the universe...it's worked well for Marvel and might be a reason to give these one-off movies a chance.

I think I going to try to forget that this is a Star Wars film and see if I can just enjoy it as a sci-fi heist film.

Please, educate yourself and watch Atlanta...but it shouldn't even take that.

Pretty hilarious that bbehe thinks Michael B Jordan would be a better pick. Creed as a movie was good, but he's not a good actor. What role is he actually believable in?

This is the 3rd or 4th best star wars movie to date. Better than all but the original trilogy and maybe better than one of them. Phenomenal.

Better than Episode 8 but not as good as Rogue One. I'm glad they didn't shoehorn in a bunch of random cameos like Boba Fett or something like that. The references they did include were for the most part fairly subtle like the changes in music when something happened.

One thing I couldn't really get into was the guy they cast for Han. He just came across like kind of a pretty boy. Donald Glover did a great job as Lando though. Will hold off on posting details until more people have seen it.

Nice space western feel. Def caught some "Willow" vibes with Ron Howard directing. I liked it a lot except for some of the pacing was kinda odd to me... it didn't feel "long" per say, just like I felt like it had wrapped up and a new chapter started.

Loved the way Glover said "Hahn" just like Billy Dee Williams.

Sidenote: This is like the 5th Star Wars movie that Warwick Davis has been in, but he's played a different character in each one. This is the first time it's been just his normal face/body though.

So just about everyone I've talked to has said that it is a good movie. The reviewers even seem to like it. So why is it not doing that well?

One thing no one has mentioned in all the analysis is movie fatigue. I mean May was a good month for movies - Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and Solo. Asking movie goers to spend 7-8 hours in a theater and nearly 40 dollars...maybe that is asking a bit much.

But there was a large drop-off for the second weekend showing, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I enjoyed it, but I can see why it would be considered a "failure" as a star wars movie.

Also, I saw it Saturday night and I was literally the only person in the theater. It was great.

Its a movie no one asked for, which had a disaster of a production, and had very little marketing. Honestly, I am surprised it did as well as it did.

The main problem that I see is that, like it or not, mainstream Star Wars has been all about the continuity. The OT was an interesting story which spanned 3 movies. The Prequels answered "how did we get to the OT?". The quality didn't matter; it answered questions! The Sequels continue the story. Rogue One told the story of just before A New Hope. Solo, based on its marketing, just doesn't fit in. I honestly have no idea what its actually about; maybe a heist? It feels like "here's a random story for a character you know, but it isn't tied into anything you've seen before." Put simply, I just don't care.

If Disney wanted to try something not tied-to-the-hip to the main story-line, this wasn't the way to do it.
