Pitching has not looked great in game 3's so far this year. In the 3-game series so far this year, we've given up 16 runs in games 1 and 2 combined. In game 3's alone, we've given up 19 (not counting 3 more Clemson already scored in the first 2 innings today).

McClain just hit a 2-run homer to tie it at 3 in the top of the 3rd.

I'm excited to see where we end up now. 3-game sweep of the presumed top team in the conference on their own turf...feels good

4-1 ACC, 17-3 overall, both good for best in conference.

Kinda surprising to me that Piedmonte didn't pitch at all this weekend, but I like that we went with someone besides Harrison for Sunday. I think Bienlien as Friday starter and Brown on Saturday should give us the opportunity to have some rested arms for Sunday, whether Piedmonte starts it or someone else.

Also 5-1 in the ACC & 18-3 overall

V damn, not again. I assumed it was probably injury related but was hoping not.

^clemson got swept by us and is still #3....lol. And im really not sure how. they're 6-3 vs RPI Top 100. We're 8-3. W. our schedules aren't drastically different looking as far as who we have faced either. I dunno. RPI makes zero sense to me and as proven in basketball this season, doesn't mean jack shit. I'll take 18-3 (5-1) with #9 RPI over 16-4 (3-3) with #3 RPI any day of the week

Or you could just look at UNC and their 12-8 record being #8 in the RPI and say, "Well, that things fuckin pointless"

RPI is pointless. Terrible statistic that shouldn't be used to prove anything with all the available metrics and calculations that exist today. The fact it is used to measure anything other than maybe a snapshot of SOS is dumb. Also this early in the year it is dumb as well since so many teams play soft schedules and rack up wins.

Any chance I can disparage RPI on this website I do, because it is the worst statistic used in a meaningful way in sports.

^^saw a guy ask warren nolan how a 12-8 UNC was ranked higher than a 18-3 NC State. He said it was because UNC's strength of schedule was #1 and NC State's was #50.

i'm really hoping that guy just comes back and tells him how f'n pointless his system is

Currently 18-3 & 21 games into a 55 game schedule. No game this week but play GT this weekend. They're 11-8 and 2-4 in conf after being swept by clempson and going 2-1 vs VT(9-10) last weekend.

We have 10 players batting over .300 (8 starters) with a team BA of .326 & 9 pitchers who have recorded W's and 8 of those are undefeated with a team era of 2.86.

"NC State’s Will Wilson has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week

Wilson turned in a stellar week at the plate to lead No. 20 NC State to a perfect 5-0 week, highlighted by the program’s first-ever three-game sweep at No. 9 Clemson. In the five games, he hit .545 with 12 hits, seven runs and five runs driven in, and had five extra-base hits with a slugging percentage of .955 and an on-base percentage of .600. He recorded more than one hit in each game of the week and extended a streak of reaching base safely to 36 consecutive games.

The sophomore shortstop from Kings Mountain, North Carolina, finished the series against the Tigers with a .500 batting average and tallied a series-high six hits. On Sunday, Wilson recorded his first career multi-home run game, giving NC State a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the first and a go-ahead homer in the eighth that proved the difference in a 5-4 Wolfpack win."

Clemson finished with 4 runs in that game. We are now averaging 2 runs allowed in each of games 1 & 2, and an average of 5.75 runs allowed in game 3's. Not bad considering we're scoring 8 runs per game, but would like to see better consistency.

Heading into the year the bullpen was my #1 concern. 21 games in and the bullpen and offense look to be two of the better units in the country. Rotation still has some question marks, but hopefully with the way the bullpen is pitching, that will allow the rotation to sort itself out prior to the Louisville series in a couple of weeks.

Brown has been very impressive as the #1. He was great his freshman year, and then has battled injuries each of the last 2 years. Nice to see him healthy so far this year. If Bienlien can perform close to the way he did in game 1 at Clemson, then there's State's #2. Only issue with him has been some of the injury issues this year that has limited his appearances. Fingers crossed that Piedmonte can be an effective #3 on Sundays, but his ineffectiveness / recent injury issue might put that into question. At the very least, if State can get performances like they did in Games 1 and 2 of the Clemson series from the starters, then a "whole staff" type game on Sundays doesn't look quite as bad an idea as it would have either of the last couple of years.

^yeah, when they went to the pen that early in game 3 I was very afraid but Avent has done that quite often over the years. It obviously worked out very well. That felt like a game clempson was going to break out of at any point and whoop us by 10.

More than the 1 and 2s COMBINED. And it's not just the starters, the bullpen hasn't done as well in game 3s either.

But today's game 1 definitely brought the numbers closer together. 3 errors...damn.

We play George Mason this afternoon. They're 10-11 overall but have won 4 straight. They have a couple good pitchers but a team era over 6. Curious to see if they throw their ace or use the typical mid-week rotation. Team BA= .269

our 3rd starting pitcher is a dumpster fire. Outside of Bienliens one start against Clemson where he was actually solid.....hes been horrendous. And there doesn't seem to be anyone else on the team outside of Brown and Piedmonte that is able to start and give us solid innings against ACC level comp
