I don't know how anyone can accept sanctions from the NCAA after they let UNC skate.

See Louisville. They lost a title because they were hiring hookers for players, classic impermissible benefits case. But UNC gets nothing on the worst academic fraud in history?

Fucking sham.

It's because UNC told the NCAA that their shitty take classes weren't there NCAA's problem. Then told their accreditation agency that the shitty fake classes were just an athletic problem.

So, Pitino took the fall. What other coaches are on the hook? I assume shady ass Calipari is suspect.

From a lot of the reports and rumors, they said 50% of the initial release of the top 16 teams from the NCAA committee were involved. So you're talking about Duke, UK, KU, all being potential targets.

A TON of people are throwing dirt at us saying we're "definitely" involved with our recruiting success under Lowe/Gott, but who really knows at this point.

I wouldn't doubt Gottfried did something shady for sure, so I guess they'll be taking away all our titles from 2011-2017...

Think it would be more about any impending post-season sanctions or scholarship reductions.

Though the FBI is involved, so it's probably a little bigger than mere NCAA sanctions.

nothing at all would surprise me, but our best recruits from that era were guys like TJW, Purvis, and DSJ. TJW's dad played here. DSJ grew up a State fan. and Purvis, iirc, also grew up a State fan and was a local guy. most of the big name recruits he landed had obvious connections to State.

I also feel sorry for Auburn here. In a way. They took the risk though because winning was important.

We're going to get hammered for signing Maverick Rowan. Mark it down.

^Rowan is actually guy that has been questioned. He was basically a lock to Louisville, they even helped him to reclassify, and then at the last minute he came to NC State(from a known dirty Adidas school to another Adidas school) and he left early to chase money.

And Keatts said exactly what he's supposed to say. He came out, defended his staff, University, and Admin. But he also added a lot of caveats saying that he wasn't here and that his belief that we are innocent is based on what everyone that was here has told him. That doesn't really scream concrete evidence we aren't being investigated.

I'd just refrain from throwing any stones just yet, a lot of college basketball fans right now assume we're one of the more obvious choices for schools to get hammered.

We paid Maverick Rowan to tank our basketball team. Think about that.

I don't think we paid of a borderline 4* to come here. Maybe he just caught a whiff of what was going on at UL and didn't like it. Maybe they forced hookers on him and it creeped him out.

Look, to me there are only two reason why Gottfried would have played Rowan so goddamn much. Either 1) he paid to get him so he had to get his money's worth, or 2) he was banging Rowan's mom. These are the only logical reasons.

The essence of NC State Shit would be if we get slammed for paying a bust who contributed nothing, after UNC skates with 4 championships and 20 years of fake classes.

I mean, we could include it all in the college basketball thread, but it seems like a not-dumb idea to have a thread dedicated to discussing an FBI investigation into the heart of college basketball recruiting..

Its DSJ. Who cares though. I’ll forfeit last year gladly.

https://www.yahoo.com/amphtml/sports/exclusive-federal-documents-detail-sweeping-potential-ncaa-violations-involving-high-profile-players-schools-103338484.html?__twitter_impression=true

Scroll down until you see a former Tar Heel who was a member of a banner team who was likely ineligible.

** the article is a bit vague as to what a “meeting” with Dawkins means. Bradley and Carter (Triangle guys) could maybe plausibly deny they did anything but meet but DSJ games are obviously gonna be vacated with money being clearly transferred.

Rowan wasn't a "borderline 4* player". When he was classified for his appropriate class, he was a 5* kid, when he reclassified to come in a year early, he slid down to a 4*. The 5* ranking was largely that he was college ready and they assumed he'd only get better/develop physically, so it makes sense.

I'm fine with vacating any wins for ineligible players we had, and I'm not really sure what our punishment would be since our entire staff is gone at this point. I've seen some people starting to throw around some crazy punishment ideas(post-season bans + allowing immediate transfers which would crush teams) but if we stick to the normal stuff(firings, vacated wins, fines) I'm fine with it.

So I skimmed that barely. What's it got to do with NCSU? Did DSJ go to school here because an agent gave him money? Or he just should be ineligible for that

Out of all this, is N.C. State really going to be the program that gets crucified? At first glance it just seems like DSJ was ineligible and we should vacate our wins from last year. But my NC State shit radar says post season bans and players released from scholarships. If the latter occurs then I might have to take a break from college basketball for a while.

only thing this really says or proves is that DSJ should have been ineligible last year. rendering all of those wonderful victories vacated. but unless they can tie this to coaching staffs, i don't see much happening here. especially in the case of State where the staff is gone and the player is gone.

Folks, unless you are Corey Maggete it does not matter when you got the money or who knew about it. If it was not reported to the NCAA and cleared (usually via paying back or a suspension) you are ineligible to play. Period. There is tons of precedent for this.

If this is all it is we will vacate games and that’s it. It’s happened to almost every big program. Sometimes for something as small as a bus ticket.

^That's what I was getting at. I don't care about vacating our 4 ACC wins. I don't want the school to be connected.

yeah he's definitely ineligible...i was just pointing out that there's no connection between the staff and agent working together to pay him or steer him to a school. which would obviously worsen the potential punishment

So if Bradley didn't pay for dinner with an agent he's ineligible, right?

Also still awaiting clarification for why Brendan Haywood was loaned 351 dollars.

Also surprise surprise, ESPN doesn't mention Tony Bradley and a national championship being at risk for UNC in their write up.
