At first I was appalled, but after thinking about it for a minute, it didn't really bother me. Golf is not really a "gentleman's game" in those shit conditions.

He explained it pretty logically after the round by saying he was taking the two stroke penalty because he knew the ball was going to roll off the green to to a very shitty lie...but I doubt that's what was actually happening in the moment.

Phil ain't gonna grovel to the critics. He called the USGA and offered to withdraw. What else are the critics looking for here? Hand written letters of apology?

And the rule is what it is. If someone thinks it should be an auto-DQ then get USGA to change it.
