After the Amazon takeover. Moldy berries everytime I go to the store, meat sucks now, the deli stuff tastes like it's been in the back of the fridge for a week....

Anyone else have bad experiences?

Sounds less like a corporate problem than a problem with an individual store. They probably had some management turnover there or something.

Same article shows that sales are up 19%.

They're still in a transition phase. Things obviously weren't going to stay the same, but I would guess the quality issues will be fixed (might not be back to level before the takeover...but still better than the current shit show).

Ironically when Amazon Fresh first came out, I got some shitty berries. I never ordered from it again. Found out this morning our eggs were shit too.

Whole Foods is a 3 minute walk from my house, so now I'm either going to have to go to the ghetto store or expensive one with $5 water bottles (glass only), and $20 Turkey Brine. How are the grocery stores in the south? I know the 3rd wave coffee thing has come around, may be time to move.

Traditionally, I would agree, but I just visited ALDI for the first time and it was fucking terrible. Way worse than WalMart.

Wal-Mart seems better than food lion, aldi, and giant around here, and almost on par with Safeway. maybe they're worse in the South or in rural areas?

I'm more of a Sprouts man, but HT is great for meat/produce and Food Lion is good for necessities.

You can't beat HT for the price for the meat that they have, but I've always found Fresh Market to have the best meat selection out of all of the grocery stores. Everything else in Fresh Market is too expensive. Lowes, to me, is the worst for price, but they are generally just a pretty cool grocery store to go into.

i don't like fresh market, every time i get chicken from there it looks and smells questionable the next day

i shopped at a food lion recently and was surprised at their produce and meats, it looks like it has improved a lot since the last time i shopped there years ago

(i still won't go back though because they only had 2 people on register for the after work rush. i thought it was going to save time stopping on my way home but going out of my way to HT probably would have been quicker since they always keep the lines short)

I worked for Food Lion for many years, starting in high school and ending after I graduated. My last store was the one on Avent Ferry. Having worked for them so many years, it was a common theme for each store - they were never given enough front-end hours to fully staff any kind of rush. So if you get pissed off at a Food Lion, please don't take it out on the cashiers or front-end managers. They can only work with the hours given to them by corporate. Supposedly they get hours based on their sales for the previous week, but it was never enough.

I think the quality of the walmart widely varies depending on where it is located and how new the store is. I would get groceries at the Tryon Walmart but not the Glenwood one for instance.

I dunno, Harris Teeter and Food Lion have consistent products no matter which location I visit.

Yes of course different shops of the same franchise are not exactly the same but the point I was going for was that the difference between the nice walmart and the shitty walmart are much higher than the variance in those other places.

I'm sorry but I've yet to see a nice Wal-Mart. Every one I go to is consistently trashed, From Fuquay to Clayton, from Cary to Raleigh. The only thing consistent is how horrible the stores look. And while I'm sure Wal-Mart gets their meat from the same suppliers as Food Lion or Harris Teeter, optics go a long way into making me trust their meat. If they can't keep their basic dry-goods isles clean, I can't expect their back room meat cutting areas to be clean.

And there is nothing worse than having to get in line for one or two things behind a person with an overflowing buggy full of groceries. I wish Wal-Mart had never gotten into the grocery business.

Go to Western/Jones Franklin Harris Teeter and then go to Cameron Village Harris Teeter. They are like two different grocery chains....
