us getting ranked makes this a loss, which saves us from the nightmare scenario of somehow going undefeated into clemson, upsetting them, then getting smoked by syracuse the next week en route to a 3rd place divisional finish

I dunno, I feel pretty good about this one. BC hasn’t looked good these past two weeks and Dillon apparently is injured.

God this is such a losers mentality. We’re good! According to polls, which are certainly not infallible, we might be one of the 25 best teams. Enjoy that! Embrace it! Quit waiting for the heartbreak and enjoy the present.

Unfortunately there’s a vocal segment of the fan base that believes shit like that. They believe in nc state shit and they believe we’re better when we’re unranked because we don’t have lofty expectations to live up to. Those fans may not be the majority. But they’re vocal. And they’re the worst.

Anyway...I see on twitter that we’ve opened as 3.5 point favorites. Surprised to see a line with AJ Dillon’s health in question.

Happy to be ranked, but these next 3 games will be the ones that tell us how good we can be this year. Cautiously optimistic at this point. My biggest gripe with the rankings is them both having Colorado ranked above us. Yes they are 4-0 just like us, but of the four teams they’ve beaten their collective record is 1-16. This is who they have beaten.

Colorado St 1-4
Nebraska 0-4
New Hampshire (FCS) 0-4
UCLA 0-4

Or how about Virginia Tech who lost to an 0-3 Old Dominion being ranked above us in one poll.

Being favored by 3.5 is a little concerning to me.

AJ Dillon is going to get his, just have to make sure we don't let their QB go off. Also have to hope Finley plays better than he did in the 1st half last week, dude was just begging to be picked haha.

^^ why is the line concerning? It’s roughly where I expected it to be. Maybe a couple points power. I was thinking we’d maybe be 5 point favorites. We seem to be improving and have dominated the last 3 opponents (yes, weaker competition) where as BC lost to Purdue and didn’t really dominate Temple. And we’re at home.

I’m not saying we definitely win. I could certainly see us losing. But the line doesn’t seem too weird to me.

Apparently Dillon went out with an ankle injury (I certainly wasn't watching). I'm guessing its not serious, but it obviously doesn't help. They ran the ball 66 times in that game

My best guess is that their opponents have better name recognition. Yeah Nebraska and UCLA suck this year, but those are still better wins on paper than Marshall and Georgia St.

reading their fan boards they constantly refer to us as "RCC". I assume that means Raleigh Community College? I've never heard this before - is this a common slight against us?

also, they seem to feel the team is imploding due to coaching and that Finley is going to make it rain on their secondary.

Line now at 5

AJ Dillon a game-time decision. Their backup RB did run for 120 yards on 23 carries though (5.2 ypc)

"Advanced stats" giving us a 68% chance to win this thing.

https://www.wildcatradioaz.com/acc-sched-win-prob

saw another model predicting we hold Dillon to under 100 yards and Finley goes 300+ to give us a comfortable win.

They have an explosive offense and a suspect D, the exact opposite of what you expect from BC.

The formula for winning a game like this is fairly straight-forward, but BC is just a tough team. They feed off sacks/TFL on D and explosive plays(20+ yards) on offense. I can't imagine Dillon not playing honestly, but even if he doesn't, BC has a veteran OL built to run the ball.

Can't imagine us limiting Dillon to <100 yards unless he's still fairly hurt. He's going to get 20+ carries if he's healthy enough, and he's good enough to break at least a few good runs. But that's totally fine, he can get 150 yards and you can still win, you just can't let their QB beat you.

Theyre running the ball a lot and running a lot of plays, which typically means a great time of possession advantage. Giving up almost 27 points per game is a lot when youre running the ball that much. D must be highly suspect.

^I think you hit the nail on the head, they're running a lot of plays because they're giving up quite a few points each game.

UMass - 316 total yards, 21 points. #73 in total offense. #43 in scoring offense.
Holy Cross - 194 total yards, 14 points. FCS so not ranked.
Wake - 512 total yards, 34 points. #23 in total offense. #29 in scoring offense.
Purdue - 372 total yards, 30 points. #19 in total offense. #64 in scoring offense.
Temple - 452 total yards, 35 points. #105 in total offense. #70 in scoring offense.

NC State is currently #35 in total offense and #46 in scoring offense. So based on what they've done so far, we should expect to put up 450 or so yards, and score 28-34 points most likely.

Really going to come down to whether or not our defense can slow down their running game enough to force them to throw and hope that Brown has a terrible game(like Purdue). No way we completely stop their offense, it's actually ranked fairly high(total offense - #28 , scoring offense - #19) and they're anchored by a veteran OL that is great at run blocking.
