^^Reminded me of that too -- its like they saw the success of A Quiet Place, and did something similar with sight rather than sound and modified it as necessary to be a bit different.

Someone figure out when this script was written. Probably after A Quiet Place.

It bothered me that her boat didn't constantly run aground and she didn't run into trees in the forest.

Yeah apparently this movie was based on a book that came out in 2014, so doubt they were copying A Quiet Place.

Good movie with quite a bit of tension/suspense.

Though you had to suspend logic a good bit, it was still enjoyable for what it was.

All I know is those blindfolds they had tied around were incredible to never slide down or fall off, even when being submerged in water or going down rapids, even though the knots in the back didn't look very tight most of the time.

Thought it was average. Wish they did the ending from the book instead.

Was it less Hollywood happy ending?

I actually went and read the ending from the book, and it sounds like a much better ending.

But definitely a much less happy ending.

Spoilers...........

So I guess aside from a few people that managed to survive with blindfolds the world will now be populated with crazy people and blind people?

^ yeah I didn’t like the direction they ended up going with the “monster”

I guess they didn’t want to do just another zombie virus, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any way for the apocalypse to end.

^^In response to the spoiler question....

I mean, in theory you could see societies moving underground to avoid it, but yeah the gist seems to be that these demons/monsters/etc are moving freely around the world in large numbers and if you see them you either become a follower or kill yourself. They also don't seem to be able to move inside of buildings(no obvious answer why) so the underground societies would make sense.

So the surface would be dominated by acolytes, blind people, and blindfolds though. I think in the book(this is a spoiler if you're trying to read the book), a lot of people abandon the blindfolds and just blind themselves to make sure they don't accidentally see "it".

watched this last night and it gave me nightmares haha. love the concept and don't really get the low critical response (relative to the popularity at least).

I took the event to be more of a rapture-type scenario but I agree it isn't really clear why the force/monster couldn't enter buildings. It wasn't really clear why some people became acolytes and others didn't. they mentioned the mental hospital patients, but depending on the psychological marker you'd really only be looking at a small fraction of the population so it would be a what percentage of people figured out how to avoid dying vs. what percentage of whatever qualifying factor for being an acolyte are left.

Also, the first draft of this book was written pretty early. I think the author actually withheld it from publication because there were other books with similar themes that were released around the time this novel was complete and they didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle.

it's a good film, it's worth watching, but the hype is a result of good PR and not because the film is actually that good

It is def. one of the better Netflix "originals." I thought it was pretty good. I guess my only beef, if I had to find something, was how there was a school for the blind in the middle of an overgrown forest.

^To be fair it had been 5 years since the ordeal started so I'm sure everything should be fairly overgrown. We also only saw the route that the stars took(river) and they said it was the fastest way to get there, didn't say it was the only way.

I'm guessing on the other side of the school from the river is a main road. Wouldn't be surprising to have a school for the blind somewhat secluded, as you'd likely want to eliminate as much ambient noise as you could.

And it makes sense the crazies/acolytes would leave the school for the blind alone, though I bet they'd at least investigate it, as they just want people to "look" so there's really no point in harassing blind people.

I really wanted to see what would happen if crazy dude in the house showed the babies the shadow/monster.

It's not like the babies could off themselves. And do they have fears the monster could exploit?

What if exposing the babies to the monster made them "immune?"

I wonder if someone is capable of holding their breath to the point they'd die...that's the only way I would think a baby would even be capable of it, but I would assume they'd need to know that they need to breathe

^I don't think it is physically possible. That's why people drown, right? I mean you hold your breath but then something overrides your knowledge that your lungs will fill with water if that mouth opens.

No they couldn't hold their breath until they die, but they could easily stop feeding, constantly try to roll onto their stomachs and try to suffocate, scream all the time hoping someone takes them out out of frustration, etc.

It would have been interesting to hear it discussed but I think it's more likely that it would have ended up making them Acolytes/psychos and they'd just grow up thinking it's normal and supporting it.

I don't think immunity was really on the table.

This is what the producers originally had in mind for the creatures. Glad they decided to keep them unseen.
