now i may mimic his movements while gesturing with my hands (inside of my office with the door closed, so no one thinks I'm crazy, of course) .

Lol, congrats man!
I got the worst raise ever this year. So insulting. Somehow I'm "maxed" out on what I can earn because of the alleged median salary for my role or some nonsense like that. 3/6/2019 8:19:01 AM

^^^ yeah, I hear ya man. I've definitely had years like that. Its all about where you are on the ratio I guess.
Current salary / average for your role (some ill defend group of people ) = your ratio = X
Then your company has to decide if X (how compensated you are for your role relation to the market) is worth giving you a raise depending on your performance. Seems like a great way to incentivize crummy raises for most employees, as long as they keep a few super talented people happy. So, define whatever distribution you want.... maybe 15% get awesome raises, 35% get pretty good raises, and 50% get shitty raises while you give them some garbage about market averages. ![](images/rolleyes.gif) 3/6/2019 8:23:45 AM

Yeah, a lot of places are going to that model. we are, as well.
Basically, assuming being at the median, top get 4 to 4.5%, middle groups get 3.75 to 3%, and others get cost of living as the company has defined.
if you're a standard deviation above it's something like -1 to the raise percentage (gradually getting you back to median over time), and if you're below it is +1 to the raise percentage (gradually getting you up to median). 3/6/2019 10:44:18 AM

Also, if you're in a bonusable position, that may have something to do with it. 3/6/2019 3:14:17 PM

Just advanced to full time at my new(ish) job after 2-2.5 years as a part-timer...so that itself was probably a 30-40% raise (just by working more).
...but then I found out yesterday that I’m getting a > $10/hour raise. ![](images/spin.gif) 8/27/2019 12:06:31 AM
