Quote :
"Sir Patrick Stewart is back: CBS has just released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming series Star Trek: Picard, set to premiere later this year on the CBS All Access streaming service.

It’s a short teaser, but it sets the stage for the series, which appears to focus on an older Jean-Luc Picard. Based on the trailer, it seems that Picard has retired from serving as an admiral in Starfleet to run his family’s vineyards in France, before he’s presumably called back into action.

The series — unlike the rebooted J.J. Abrams films, which occur in a parallel timeline — is set in Star Trek’s main timeline, and will pick up with Picard years after his final canon appearance in 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.

“Fifteen years ago, today, you led us out of the darkness. You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history,” says an unknown woman in a voiceover. “Then, the unimaginable.” It’s not entirely clear who’s speaking or what she’s referring to here, but it’s possible she may be referring to the destruction of the Romulan homeworld of Romulus, which was destroyed in last major event in Star Trek’s continuity, splitting the continuity from 2009’s Star Trek film.

“Tell us: why did you leave Starfleet, admiral?” the woman asks, before a brief shot of Picard himself appears. Whatever the event 15 years ago was, it seems to have had a heavy impact on Picard. We’ll likely find out more when Star Trek: Picard starts streaming later this year. No release date has currently been set."

would be better if it just focused on him growing grapes and making wine, rather than returning to space

Would be better if it was a show just about him dealing with losing his mind.

I’m obviously going to watch this but I’m skeptical... Picard/Patrick Stewart is amazing but he’s also ridiculously old. I can’t see how he can have the gravitas he has. But they ended up doing a good job with Discovery so I’ll try to have more faith...

That trailer hit a lot of right notes with me, and I'm not even a huge Star Trek guy.

Damn you CBS internet bullshit subscription.

Also Jeri Ryan is still smokin'.

Man I just subscribe for like a month and burn through them. I’m cool with paying $10-15 for an entire season of a show I enjoy. Still cheaper than cable. No, I don’t own it like I would if I spent way more on buying a full season on amazon or dvd, but I can drink and piss $10 worth of beer in like 45 minutes, so whatevs.

I resisted subscribing but then I decided to try Discovery and now I am hooked. They can't pull the stuff they are doing on the subscription service on public access television. They are competing with HBO and the other cable networks with the quality and content of the new shows. I binged two seasons of Discovery and was amazed at how good (and dark) it was. I am now into the Twilight zone. I will likely unsubscribe next month and wait for the new season.

I rewatched Voyager recently and beyond their very obvious attempt to focus on her physical attributes, she did a phenomenal job as 7 of 9. I think she was underrated for her portrayal because of her physique.

Definitely pleased to see her back in the Trek universe.

SPOILERS

I think tie-in/crossover with discovery is a strong possibility here too

I just can't get into Discovery. I have tried so many times. I like Saru, mainly because Doug Jones is usually fantastic in just about any role he plays. The other characters are just...........blah.

I remember the glory days when people used to pirate because there was no such thing as a la carte cable. Now you can literally buy one provider's offerings at a time and people finally confess than they just didn't want to spend any money after all.
