I go many days and even over a week sometimes without drinking a beer in the summer. I work outside in the heat, so I try to eat and drink plenty of water after work.

Early 30's guy I worked with at a body shop many years ago said he couldn't even begin to get a buzz unless he downed a case of beer. He would usually have a giant cooler in the back of his pickup truck and would go next door to the gas station every day at lunch and get ice and a case of beer. He'd do a few at lunch and start a couple more in the parking lot before he hit the road. He often rolled out with an open container in his truck. I couldn't imagine functioning at that level, but he did it almost every single day. Oh yea and he had his pickup truck roll onto him once when he was out back under it. Working on the brakes on an inclined drive and didn't chock the wheels. It was one of those big ass Chevy 3500 diesel trucks too. We pushed it off of him and he was surprisingly well off.

My routine is usually a beer (miller or coors) when I get home from work around 4, then 1.5-2oz of bourbon after the kids go to bed. On weekends I usually have 3-4 drinks a day (combination of beer/bourbon). I haven't really noticed any type of adverse effects. Probably get shit faced 3-4x a year (although we're going to mexico in a week so that might skew things a little )

What are our thoughts on white claw or truly? Had white claw for the first time today and drink, I think, 7. Could’ve had 7 more. Great taste + less filling imo

I've drank twice in the last year. Both in the last 2-3 weeks.

We shared a bottle of wine over dinner tonight. Afterwards, we went to a bar and had a cocktail. Now I'm home and could have another, but I'm thinking I want to go on a run tomorrow morning, so maybe not

This thread makes me thirsty :glug:

Anyway, I think it really depends on the individual, their tolerance, their habits, etc.

I definitely drank a ton in my teens and early twenties, but once I hit 30s, I just couldn't hang like I used to. I also teach evening classes a few nights a week, so I pretty much just go straight to bed so I can get up in the morning well-rested and hit the gym. I can't recall the last night I went out to a bar for drinks on a week night during a semester I was teaching, but during winter/spring/summer breaks, I basically will drink whenever I feel like it since "I'm on vacation." Or something. I'm also pretty cheap and introverted, so when I do drink, it's usually at home with my spouse.

I come from a long line of alcoholics, so I do worry that if I don't watch it, it could become one, too. Do you have a family history of alcoholism?

I wouldn't worry too much about what some people on TWW think about your drinking habits, but guess it boils down to answering these yes/no questions to see if you might have a 'drinking problem':

1. are you drinking 3-5 cocktails every night because you're bored/anxious/stressed?
2. are you waking up hungover or feeling guilty/shitty about drinking 3-5 cocktails the night before?
3. are you missing out on 'normal' day-to-day activities like the gym, running errands, or showing up to work late (or calling in sick) because you had 3-5 cocktails every night of the week?
4. are your relationships (spouse/kids/family/extended family/etc) suffering because you're having 3-5 cocktails a night?
5. I'm making these questions up as I go along, BUT are you freaking out and worrying that you're an alcoholic now since you've had 3-5 drinks already tonight, which apparently is a lot for some people who can't hold their liquor like you can?

If you answered YES to most of them, yeah you might be a raging alcoholic. Or, it could just be a bunch of lightweight non-drinking nerds trying to shame you for indulging a bit more than them in a daily source of pleasure.

Had 10 or so over the course of the day (minus 4 hours in the tattoo chair) on Friday. Felt fine Saturday, didn't drink the rest of the weekend.
Taking a day off on Wednesday to hang out with the lady, and we're planning for a day of pizza and beer. Will report on Thursday.

My friends rag on me a lot, but I fucking love Whiteclaws. Not exclusively or anything, but if it's mostly a beer drinking day these are a great spacer. Grapefruit is my fave.
I'll probably go the flavored Vodka and seltzer route this year for our beach trip too.

One thing @qntmfred that I thought about today is I'd probably be on the same 3 to 4 drinks a night if I weren't running in the morning. My alcohol consumption is inversely proportional to the number of days I exercise in the morning. It's not being hungover or anything, but, rather, I wake groggy, have a slower pace, and might have explosive shits by the end of the run. If you decide you want to cut back, picking up morning runs as a hobby would probably do it pretty quickly.

Also a question for you. Are you just as likely to drink multiple drinks of anything else you have in front of you? Example, when I was a kid, I would drink soda after soda if they were in the house. I'd easily get 6 a day sometimes. Now if I'm at a restaurant and order a drip coffee, I'll keep taking refills up until we leave. But if I buy a cup of coffee to go, I'm not jonesin' for more coffee. Things like that.

To be fair, answering yes to these questions indicates that he is stress drinking. That is, using alcohol as his escape. I would recommend trying to figure what's going on that would lead him to answer yes to all of those questions, and then go from there.

For instance, waking up feeling guilty can mean a lot of things. Did he get hammered alone while his kids were asleep? Did he go out and say some raunchy shit to a colleague while his partner is asleep?

Being irresponsible with alcohol does not always equate to being a raging alcoholic. It could be a case of using it as an escape due to other, stressful issues in life.

And for the record, immediately calling a person that is openly concerned about his alcohol consumption a raging alcoholic doesn't typically do much to help.

I hate how much love white claw is getting. It's just 5% abv la croix. And so is truly. and now, so is that fucking bon and viv garbage.

La croix is disgusting and if you make a malt beverage out of it, its also disgusting.

But because barstool sports fans think its cool to drink la croix, now white claw is a thing.

I went on a beer run with my sister 2 weeks ago. She tells me to get whatever I wanted and to get her something fruity. I go in to the store and get a 6er of Yuengling Pils (which is actually damn good pilsner btw) for me, and I start to look for something to get her. So, I just go to the spot where the boxes are colorful and grab something that turns out to be Truly. I look over to the counter and ask the girl working if this is the type of fruity, cute-girl shit that girls drink now. The girl behind the counter was not amused, and she grunted to the guy next to her "aint that just a typical man thing to say." So, I just stand there confused and then my sister comes in. She sees the box of Truly and says "oh, I love that! It's my favorite!" Then she looks to the girl behind the counter and asked her "did you help my brother out?"

Counter girl got redder than a grapefruit and everybody in the store started laughing their ass off.

The only time I count beers is when I am planing my weekly budget. For example:

20 bucks for the new Mikkelsen movie, and thats about 17 beers, so.... Pass!
