This thread is bringing back so many fun memories of Amsterdam!

Any of y'all been there? I read a book once about how the rooms in the red light district weren't really rooms but actually just doorways into a labyrinth-type structure within the buildings on the canals. I thought that this was total bs and gave a girl 50 Euros once to check it, and it was totally true. I walked in the room and was immediately escorted down a hallway and then upstairs, and then a couple of lefts and rights before I was nowhere near the street that I actually came in on. It was pretty cool.

I have since read that they all aren't like that, and so I guess that I just got lucky.

It's true though. I was with some friends in NYC once and we were driving through the Holland Tunnel. I immediately laughed and wondered why it was called the Holland Tunnel. Everybody in the car was staring at me blankly until somebody asked bluntly, "What do you mean?"

To which I replied "You do know where Holland is right? Cuz I don't think that the car is going to make it that far. We should get a full tank first"

Nobody got the fuckin joke because nobody had a fuckin clue about Holland and where it was on the map. Then, a rather large argument ensued about how I shouldn't make people look bad just because I lived in Euorope for nearly a decade. Unreal.

^^I went to Amsterdam last summer -- didn't spend much time in the Red Light District but that is interesting. I just figured it was all those small rooms that the girls were on display in.

Yeah, but I only tried this once, and I don't think that they are all like that. I must have gotten lucky and ended up in one of the very OG brothels.

^^sounds like you hang with some uneducated people. It's one thing not to know exactly where in Europe Holland is... but it's another thing to not know that it's across the ocean.

I'm pretty sure banjomans acquaintances knew Holland was in Europe. That's why they didn't think the fucking Holland tunnel went to Holland.

I'm not sure how you deduced that from what he posted. He said they had no clue where Holland was and didn't understand his joke about the Holland tunnel not going to Holland.

I think it's more that they knew Holland wasn't close to New York and banjomans joke was terrible. I would just stare at him if he told such a terrible joke.

They clearly didnt know, that's how their feelings got hurt and why I got a lecture about it.

And let's face it, Americans are very uneducated about world culture and geography compared to others. There are reasons for this, but facts are facts.

Also, today was apparently the hottest day ever recorded in Germany.
