All the barstool fans on Twitter are irate that a team would rather play in the sun bowl (payout $4 million, broadcast nationally on cbs) instead of attempting to find a replacement for the barstool bowl (pays $350k and is only on YouTube at the same time as a CFP game.)

I'm not sure what cult is weirder, the bros defending barstool or the bros who defend elon musk from any and all criticism. Oh who am i kidding, they're all the same bros.

Kirby Smart is the most conservative, wound up coach in the spotlight.

It couldn't be clearer that JT Daniels needs to start the third quarter, they need to throw the ball downfield. I don't know what Kirby's plan is, they can't hold Bama to only 9 points in the second half. What is he thinking will happen? A defensive touchdown to take the lead?

[Edited on January 10, 2022 at 10:13 PM. Reason : if justin fields asked me to play more over jake fromm i'd probably do that and not let him transfer]

Might help if they'd tackle the Bama receivers instead of giving up 4+ yards after contact every play
Also, stop throwing the ball 8yds short of the LOS every 3rd down.

lol at that call. Seems hard to overturn but also looked clearly like a incomplete and out of bounds in live action. It obviously was less clear on replay. But just feels wrong that the on-field call was made in the first place. But also technically feels like the right call also on replay. Strange!

I think the reason I don’t like UGa (especially this UGa) and don’t mind Bama has more to do with style than anything. Hasn’t been on display as much this game. But Bama isn’t really the same Bama they were in 2011 winning games 9-6 or whatever. Saban has really adapted and modernized his offense. It makes them actually entertaining. UGa is still doing that old school football shit which works when you have players as good they have. But ultimately hamstringing your offense by playing 20th century offense is not only less fun, it’s also not gonna beat an elite 21st century offense.

UGa may still come back and win it. So I don’t mean to say it’s entirely impossible to win the way UGa plays. But Bama is toe to toe with them with one of Bama’s weaker teams in recent memory.

UGa is equally 5 star laden, if not more so this year (I’m not gonna bother to look up the recruiting rankings). They aren’t all that different. But I do understand the fatigue of the same team winning. To me, there’s basically no difference to me if it’s Bama or UGa. And I personally find Bama more enjoyable/entertaining to watch.

Edit to add that this has been an entertaining game so I won’t complain about style too much. Glad to have a close game unlike the last couple years.

^^^^ my beef is that they overturned a much clearer fumble on the scoop and score. On more than one angle you could see the ball move before the bama QBs arm went forward. This one, they *only* showed an oblique angle where you couldn't see his arm going forward. There's no way that ball goes 15 yards forward as a fumble. And then, to label it as intentional grounding when the QB is clearly hit as he is throwing, affecting the throw enough to possibly be a fumble for fuck's sake, is just pure garbage.

54 for UGa jumping on top of the pile is the most textbook 15 yard penalty that didn’t get called lol. Feel like that was a particular point of emphasis recently.

Because they have had their chances and squandered them?

I mean good for Georgia but I will point out that Stetsons big throw came on a free play. They never played with any confidence in the passing game.

As a general rule I actually agreed with nearly every call the refs did, which was shocking considering the arbitration of the typical ACC game. Guess they wanted to put on a good show on national television

https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/1480754297658875904?s=20

Clearly no control at the top of the throw = fumble.

https://twitter.com/espn/status/1480712040507392001?s=20

Clear control all the way down = no fumble

The call on Bama defense's "disconcerting signals" is something I haven't heard called before but it is correct. The announcers acted baffled cause the Bama DE was clapping the very next play and didn't get called, but the difference is he was clapping before everyone was set instead of after

Fair catch interference looked worse in real time than on the replay but it still was the right call... gotta give him at least a yard

Late in the game I thought there was a PI that didn't get called on Georgia's D on a deep route down the left side of the field but there's no way I'm gonna find a replay of that but otherwise I don't recall any glaring omissions

Yeah I agree. I think the calls were correct. Both fumble/incomplete calls looked wrong in live action I thought (UGas looked clearly incomplete until they went to super slow replay and Bama’s looked like an obvious fumble until they slow it down). Both were close calls but both were correct calls imo

Glad Georgia won, but its quite shitty that the blue check brigade on social media were constantly like this is a weak Alabama team and Georgia didn't beat anybody. Georgia was clearly the best team in the country this year.

It speaks to Saban's coaching ability that they were able to beat Georgia in the SEC title game. I saw Todd Fuhrman say if Metchie and Williams were healthy Bama would have steamrolled Georgia. Maybe Alabama scores more touchdowns with them, but outside of Harris and Anderson this was an average Alabama defense that gives up a lot of scores.

^^^^ gonna disagree. The close up camera angles on both plays made it hard to see what happened. For bama, the ball is perfectly inline with the camera view when you can see it and obscured from view by a lineman when it matters. On another angle, you can see it move along the line of the ball in his hand before the throw. For uga, in the close up, it looks like a fumble, but it also looks like the ball goes behind him which we know didnt happen. There were other views, but espn didnt show them in slowmo.

Again, what's crazy is the intentional grounding. They didnt call it on bama, but they would have called it on uga, even though in both the pass is clearly affected by a defender. Just inconsistent playcalling that we've come to expect from ACC officials

I saw some of the talk about “actually who has UGa beaten?” after the SECCG which I think was a knee jerk reaction to the loss. But I’ve seen tons of talk also about “is this UGa Defense the greatest of all time”. So I think there’s plenty of people that respect UGa and don’t think this was a fluke at all and I don’t think there’s any real attempt to discredit how good UGa was.

Quote :
" Georgia was clearly the best team in the country this year."

I honestly don’t disagree with this. But at the same time I think a healthy Bama (maybe even if just Williams hadn’t been hurt) beats UGa twice. I know those two thoughts seem incompatible but idc I stand by it. UGa was the best team all year. Bama with a full stable of WRs probably has enough offensive explosiveness to beat UGa twice.

^^ Thats just your opinion and honestly I don't care if you agree or not.

^I think Georgia benefited from a weak SEC East and Non Conference schedule. Defensively they were probably tops this season, was that an all-time great I am not so sure either.

Alabama maybe wins a shootout with Metchie and Williams, as the QB would be difference and Bryce Young >>>> Stetson Bennett, but Georgia has some weapons offensively and if defecit had grown who knows how their gameplan would have changed.

burden’s on you to provide proof

I follow a whole hell of a lot of sportswriters on twitter and I don’t recall any saying anything about Alabama being weak or Georgia not beating anybody. everybody agreed that they were clearly the best two teams in the county

pretty sure the consensus was that this wasn’t a Vintage Alabama team, but that isn’t the same as calling them weak. also pretty sure that the consensus was that Georgia was legitimately great because legitimately great teams dominate their opponents, which is exactly what Georgia did

you’re telling on yourself when you use the term “blue check brigade”

I don't think its a worthwhile criticism to guess what would have happened without injuries. Teams have injuries every year. Luck, including injury luck, is a factor for basically every championship team ever.

^ yeah I’m not trying to insinuate that UGa didn’t deserve to win. More of a comment just about styles in CFB. Imo an explosive O beats a dominant D in modern CFB. And bama’s offense couldn’t be nearly as explosive without Williams and Metchie. But UGa 100% deserved to win. Don’t mean to take anything away from that. Yeah, I’m not really trying to be revisionist about UGa at all.
