Quote : | "Joseph said the city should have focused more on contamination from the outset, better educating the public to keep items such as greasy pizza boxes and dirty peanut butter jars out of the recycling.
"There's a cost to putting the garbage in the recycling because it costs more to process it and pull it out,' Joseph said. "We obviously want to tell you what you should and shouldn't recycle. But for the folks who are just blatantly disregarding that, there needs to be level of enforcement that comes along with that." |

Aluminum cans, glass & plastic bottles, most cartons, cardboard & cardstock of all sorts (but never anything with food on it), most paper, and all junk mail. 11/20/2019 6:29:22 AM |

Does anybody know what happens with the plastic that is "recycled" around the triangle? Sounds like only certain types should be put in the recycling and the bad types just end up in the landfill anyway? Wonder if cardboard we recycle actually gets recycled here too... 11/20/2019 12:31:25 PM |

if you don’t know if something is recyclable or not, throw it away
and
always look for the logo before recycling
and
never throw any kind of plastic bag in the recycling

N Texas takes a much more laissez faire approach to recycling. Honestly kind of annoying. Businesses aint gotta do shit, residents either. I’d much rather have more robust recycling regimen, if that effort was facilitated. In NC, it was better 11/21/2019 12:22:03 AM |

If it's vaguely cardboard, plastic, or metal, it goes in the recycling bin. I figure i'm creating jobs by having someone else figure out what's actually supposed to be in there... 11/21/2019 12:33:37 AM |

Here are some tips for recycling and avoiding plastic from a former EPA official:
?? Only recycle No. 1, No. 2 or No. 5 plastics ?? Replace Tupperware with glass containers ?? Avoid black plastic — it's made from recycled electronic waste

I made a thread about this a while back, but sometimes I walk around Walmart in awe of all the plastic that I see that will eventually end up in a landfill or busted in pieces somewhere on a country roadside. Even if a majority of it is recycled...so much plastic. And then multiply what I see by all the Walmarts, Targets, BJ's, Costcos, and grocery stores....its overwhelming. 1/21/2020 12:15:07 PM |
