We gotta get one of big games this year or its gonna be a repeat of last year come selection sunday with the seemingly down ACC.

yes. whats your point? Are you suggesting that we should NOT run more plays to get Andree open 3s?d

I think we have enough scoring where we will take one from UVA this year. Maybe Louisville. But I think we will lose a few more bad ones to make up for it. Definitely headed for the bubble.

I don’t necessarily think so. For one, the ACC is weaker this year. So while the quality of opponent may not be as elite as last year (didn’t we have something like 6 games vs top 10 teams?) I think the chance to get wins will be higher. I can’t remember the stat exactly, but we were like 1-8 vs top 50 teams...but of those 8 losses something like 6 were against top 10 teams. This year we may get 9 chances vs top 50 teams again, but they likely won’t be so many top 10 teams...meaning more winnable games vs teams in the 40s.

I’m sure my stat is a little off, but basically it was that our Q1 record was awful because like 75% of our Q1 games were vs UNC, Duke, UVa, etc with very few games vs low end Q1 teams.

We just lost by 6 on the road to a top 10 team. I know it wasn’t pretty and it felt like the game slipped away from us. But I’m not buying into the doom and gloom “we’re headed for the bubble” shit yet.

^^yeah that's true. Another reason why how much stock they put in quadrant wins is bullshit. A win against UNCG literally will count as a Q1 win the same as a win against Duke or Louisville.

^It's not really doom and gloom. We have played close games against every good team so far. If we can't pull out a few of these big games, it's definitely back to the bubble.

Looking at tonight in a vacuum. It was fine. Good effort, a few tough calls against us. Guys who usually hit a few shots (Hellems and Beverly), couldn't.

Braxton is one of those "good hustle" guys without the good hustle.

I think we do better in the league this year but the league is much worse (especially in the NET) so it could get pretty hairy

^Beverly is what he is. The problem is when we try to ask him to be what he's not. If you just let him sit in a corner and shoot 3s and occasionally surprise a defense with his drives he's fine. If youre relying on him beyond that youre in trouble. The problem is we have too many role players like that so he gets asked to do more too often

gym rat. lunch pail guy. etc. (ie, he's white)

I actually thought that aside from those two bonehead turnovers in a row, he played decent tonight.

On the other hand, Andree lost his man at least 4 times that I counted for easy layups.

nm. Beverly was 1-5 tonight with three turnovers. Hellems was 1-9. Jesus. d

He plays hard on D and he's relatively quick he is just to small. He gave up too many points where the guy just went over him.

Our best non conference win is UNCG and we've already got a possible quad 4 loss at home to an awful GT team. The bubble right now would be great.

Keatts loses me not playing any zone even when in major foul trouble. Plus Auburn was not hitting 3s.

Not fouling with 50 seconds to go down 5 to awful FT shooting team was a head scratcher.

hellems' mediocre athleticism is a problem no ones really acknowledged

he's the worst rebounder on our entire roster and collapsed as soon as we got to conference play last year. im hoping today more post-concussion effects than some of both

wins matter...but the distinction between OOC quality wins and in-conference quality wins doesn't really matter. and with 20 ACC games, we've got plenty of chances to get those quality wins.

losing @Auburn isn't what keeps you out of the tourney. but yes, that loss to GT could.

Beverly is easily our biggest liability on defense. Every time the other team needs a basket, they know to just give it to the guy Beverly is guarding. Happened on several occasions last night. Unfortunately, he might be our best option as backup PG. Losing Batts and Seabron at the beginning of the season is really killing us.

Hellems is one of the best rebounders on the team. He plays with energy that a lot of guys (Markel, DJ) don't always show. I really hope last night was more a result of his concussion, and he will be back to form from the past 3 weeks. Because he was awful and cost us the game.
