^^^It probably could be done without them, but it is likely best if it come from them so no one University glooks like they’ve gone rogue. The BoG might be mostly conservative but Dr. Roper is still the interim head and is a doctor first and foremost. He also has some added credibility with the BoG and Legislature because he is/was a Republican and worked for Bush Sr.

I heard from a few people in meetings yesterday that they were expecting NC State to "release an updated statement" about this last night. That didn't happen, so maybe they're revising it or holding off based on forthcoming UNC System guidance.
