This mindset can really go a long way towards making interactions more productive. Even if someone has malintent, assuming positive intent can help you get more out of the situation.

I feel like I generally live life this way. I also try to steer others that way too when discussing interactions they have with others. Or to at least consider that they meant no harm.

i assumed positive intent when first reading horosho's posts

then i saw a pattern, and understood that there is nothing positive about horosho.

Yeah, assuming positive intent is important in interpersonal relationships. However, you shouldn’t let it be abused by others and get walked over.

I talk with someone I don’t know, sure I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume noble intentions. I talk or hear from a person I know to be a jackass, I’m not going to give him the benefit of the doubt because he’s already proven he doesn’t have noble intent.

Stupidity=/=malintent

A "stupid" person with noble intent is still going to hold weird beliefs. Your anger and rage is not going to make a "stupid" person more intelligent.

You're basically just saying you assume good intent until something happens that makes you not want to.

To clarify, i assume positive intent until someone gives me a reason not to.
