I have some oak boards I bought from Home Depot and am looking for advice/steps to finish them, for outdoor use.

I bought a can of Behr Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish. Sounds like I can just throw 2-3 coats of that on them and call it a day? Should I use a brush/foam thing or try an air sprayer? Any prep needed? Any other products I should consider using?

OH , I'VE STAINED SOME WOOD, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

wait. that could be taken in multiple ways. scratch that.

I, too, would like some tips. I suck at staining wood. I typically do a light sanding and use a rag or brush. The foam tends to break / tear easily and holds too much stain for my liking.

I'm using a wipe on poly on raw oak that I washed in soap and water first.

So far so good.

Do you have to sand btw each coat or just b4 the last?

Pretty good!

This was for an old Weber grill I restored

How it looked when I picked it up for $25

And this was when I was mostly done (has a new handle not shown...one on there was a temp)

Did a little sanding just to be safe and did 4 coats of whatever product I mentioned above
