Looking to get some parts made.
Anyone have experience with any of the usual suspects (3dhubs, xometry, rapiddirect) or somewhere local?
If it matters, its a small tool, a torx T-140 if it existed officially. About 1"

I’d be surprised if any local shops wanted to really fuck with that. My guess is the onlines give a better price. 1/3/2021 12:44:44 AM

I had something much simpler than that made in a local machine shop (bmw wouldn't sell the part I needed, just a full knuckle). I ended up paying something like $80, which I felt was a huge a ripoff. didn't really have time to price shop though 1/3/2021 10:52:49 AM

Frankly, any one-off part for under $100 is pretty fair. 1/4/2021 4:14:37 AM

I chickened out on getting someone in china to make it. Lots of bids on mfg.com but pretty risky.
Found someone in PA to make it for 10@$30/ea 1/7/2021 2:41:13 PM

That's a damned steal. Figure 30 minutes for CAM. An hour for set up. An hour of spindle time / swapping blanks and tools. This sounds like something that should be heat treated so figure an hour for that.
That's almost 4 hours of shop time which should be $600 plus materials. 1045 is pretty cheap so figure $20.
Again, a steal. 1/8/2021 10:03:29 AM

Cool, thanks for the confirmation.
These are 4140 with hard chrome plating.
Some bids on MFG.com were <$100. I can only assume those would be full on chineisum. Some more legitimate bids would have come out to ~$200 after shipping DHL 1/9/2021 6:00:49 PM

Yep. A steal, especially with the plating. 1/10/2021 12:14:07 AM

What do you need a T-140 tool for anyway? 1/11/2021 11:20:10 AM

Rebuilding Bosch ABS pumps from late 80s cars. This is one tool, once I get in this gate I think that I will end up needing another. These things are an engineering marvel. 1/11/2021 8:50:36 PM

T140. If it was T40 he could just buy one. I've not seen a Torx driver at retail bigger than T100. 1/12/2021 11:06:06 AM

Torx specifications stop at T100, but this tool was made by interpolating the ratios between T80, T90, T100 etc out to my size. 3d Print prototype fit first try. 1/12/2021 11:28:47 AM
