Due to his plan, colonizing Moon and Mars is more and more realistic now, like sending 1M people to the Mars by 2050. And those travelers are of course rich people. They can pay the ticket for half a M dollars. So he gets funded by a lot of millionaires and billionaires, which makes him even richer.

He is certainly rich. I would argue that he is just one of the richest KNOWN people in this world. That excludes:

1. Families with immense wealth (think the Royal Family)
2. People that are just so fucking rich that they would just rather be unknown
3. Individuals that are heads of narco states, or otherwise operate as an entire country's government.
