Did we have E115 together? It was a female Indian instructor and it took me a while to understand how she pronounced "zero". She said "gee-oh", and I kept writing the letters G and O. The UNIX command prompt didn't like my input.

^lol. Yes, we did the very first day before they split the class in half and it became an every other week kinda thing. Ben was in there as well. I remember the first class she started talking and everyone just started looking at each other confused.

The same thing happened in my economics class a few years later. Indian instructor no one could understand.

That's the original (British) name of the letter and most of Africa and Asia (and I believe mainland Europe) still says "zed", though things have been changing for the last some number of years due to American movies and culture becoming widespread.

Thank you for the education. I wasn't being critical, but it was hard for me to take notes and enter code until I understood this persistent attribute of her accent. Then I adapted, no big deal.

I think she actually said the string "gee-oh-oh-two" or something similar. I wrote or logged "G002", but the correct string was "0O2". I don't think I have that quite right, but trust me that it was confusing for a freshman in their first class, particularly when exact character entry on the command line was required to get the desired or predicted output.

Yup, it checks out: "gee-oh-oh-two" = 0 (geeoh) - O (oh) - 2 (two). The zero pronounced as "gee(r)oh" (the r gets eaten up I suppose!) is what causes the main confusion
