As i said before, it's because Alexander/Couzens weren't at the game. They were watching on TV too.

Just one of the many, many reasons why remote play-by-play is fucking awful. If they were there, they'd have gotten that info firsthand from TV Teddy.

I heard that Hayes was ejected for saying “Big 10? I got a big 10 right here for you” as he grabbed his crotch.

I hope that Morsell ankle roll was more insignificant than it appeared. He's irreplaceable on the defensive end of the court (as seen last night after he went out and was replaced by Pass/Smith.) Gonna struggle mightily without him.

Quote :
" It appears NC State has avoided disaster with Casey Morsell's injury, but he could miss time in a critical game for the Wolfpack. According to Kevin Keatts, an MRI revealed Morsell suffered a sprain against Nebraska, but his availability for the ACC opener against Louisville on Saturday will be a game-time decision.

“We did a MRI and luckily there was no break,” Keatts said. “He has an ankle sprain. He will be a game-time decision. We’ll be able to look at him today and before the game tomorrow to decide if he will be able to play or not.”

Morsell suffered the injury with 14 seconds left to play in regulation against Nebraska and was unable to put weight on his left ankle, being helped off by two NC State trainers. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard would later return to the bench area on crutches throughout the four overtime periods.

Currently averaging 12.3 points and 4.4 rebounds, Morsell ranks No. 3 in both categories for the Pack through the first seven games. He's also shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and 39.3 percent from behind the arc, which is good for No. 5 and No. 2 on the roster in both categories.

Through the first seven games of the season, Morsell has been a starter every time out. So if he is unable to start, the Pack would likely look to freshman Terquavion Smith at the 2 against Louisville and have to hope Thomas Allen is available after playing in the final two overtime periods against Nebraska while dealing with plantar fasciitis."

I missed Hellem’s 30 pt game last week so I’m sure someone will come in and say I’m wrong and point to that game but the dude should be hitting the offensive boards and getting garbage points only. He’s trying to be the guy and he isn’t that.

I didn't watch the first half, but i wish the team had shown up for it. Easily the better team in the second half. Also wish Dowuona hasn't fouled out on a play where he didn't touch the guy, but whatever.

I mean, in the last minute Hellems missed two jumpers (so did Cam).

Why the fuck did Seabron not have the ball?

Hellems shot 5/16 on the night. Not sure how that is proving your point exactly.

Anyways, I'm not a Hellems hater. I would just like our guys to play to their strengths/role. If he concentrated on rebounding the basketball (as one of our two front court players) and picking up the garbage points (cuts, open 3s after a kick out), then he would be an effective player for us. We got outrebounded 46-30. That's the ballgame right there.

That three ball they had with 2s left on the clock after we played solid D that whole possession was the killer.

Overall, I think my low expectations have caused me to really like this team more than the last couple of years. I like the way we have guys attack the basket and not settle for dumb jumpers again and again. Even in the tough loss, I liked the way we played generally.

Those are decidedly not garbage points my dude. Those are points from playing within the offense, WHICH IS WHAT HELLEMS DOES. It's why he hit like 3 3s in the second half (without which the game would not have been close.) Yeah he's struggled really on this season, but he's not forcing bad shots, just missing on good looks.

Garbage points are shit like putbacks and tip ins off offensive boards, not guys running the offense and getting open looks. Yeah he's been slumping most of this early season, but he doesn't really take bad shots. And honestly he's not really a frontcourt player. We mostly play 4 out and 1 big (and he is not the big) so the rebounding onus is really on all the guards/wings. This is not basketball from 25 years ago where 4s are expected to look like Karl Malone and beat the shit out of each other on the block.

Hellems is currently our best 3 point shooter. He was our 2nd best shooter last year, and 3rd best as a sophomore. But yeah, he should just crash the boards and get garbage points. If there are guys on the team who need to not shoot it's Hayes and Pass.

Garbage points were probably not the most accurate phrase to use to describe what I was getting at. Hellems needs to play a role and take open threes and crash the boards. Sure, call it playing within the offense. Him trying to iso a defender or be a playmaker which he does all too often is why his efficiency fuckin sucks right now. He isn’t just going through a shooting slump. He takes bad shots. And I never said shit about him playing a traditional 4. We are getting dominated on the boards every game. If not him, theoretically someone who has the height and body to grab rebounds, then who? He is rebounding at a worse rate than last year with more minutes.

Cam is missing (mostly) open shots. Pass has basically been the same. I’d believe they are in a slump.

I mean, it's not all that crazy to think they're in a slump, they're both players with relatively little experience having to take on a bigger new role. I've been pleasantly surprised by our playing so far, it hasn't been clean but we're not awful. I have confidence we'll improve down the stretch

It's weird that you think Cam is just in a slump but Hellems is just taking bad shots, when Hayes/Pass are both taking bad contested 3s. Hayes in particular likes to take deep 3s that aren't in the rhythm of the offense. Pass has yet to show he can actually shoot at all, so i can't say he's in a slump, maybe he just can't shoot.

Also, every single player on the team is expected to crash the boards for rebounds. Look back at all the Keatts teams, there's a bunch of guys with 4-6 RPG. Guess what? Hellems is averaging 4.4. He's doing his part. The season Seabron is having from a rebounding perspective is unprecedented for a Kevin Keatts team. The only player who comes close is NBA champion Devontae Cacok on his last UNC-W team. Your insistence that Hellems isn't rebounding enough is weird. He's doing what is asked of him.

I guess you just want Roy Williams to coach NC State and we can play 2 traditional bigs in the low post. That's the only thing i can figure out about your insistence on why a 6'7 wing should be getting more rebounds. He's not a low post player. Never has been, never will be. Maybe Hayes should be crashing the boards more since he can't shoot 3s.

I am harping on Hellems rebounding because we are getting beat on the boards every game and he has fewer rebounds than he did last year (with more minutes) when we had DJ and Bates (often playing at the same time). What changed? The only thing that I can see is that Hellems has the ball in his hands away from the basket more now. And his rebounds not only should have not gone down but they should be up since he is the tallest/biggest body we have the floor besides Ebe/Gibson.

Hayes and Pass are Fresh/Soph. I'd argue that they at least take open shots (albeit you are right they are often early in the shot clock). Hellems is a Senior who should be experienced enough to be within the offense nearly always at this point in his career and yet he takes the worst shots on the team. We have pretty consistently looked better when he has been out.

I like this team. I don't think Hellems is the sole reason we have looked bad, but as a Senior leader, he should be providing more than "not the reason we are bad".

What changed? Seabron is gobbling up rebounds. Also he's only 0.6 rebounds off his rate from last year (2/3 of which is coming on the offensive end, which I'm fine with since he's now our only good 3 point shooter with Morsell out.) Hayes's rebounding percentages have also both dropped (and are well below Hellems) and he's shooting worse overall than he did last year because of his atrocious performance from 3. But keep blaming all the problems on a slumping Hellems.

Quote :
"We have pretty consistently looked better when he has been out."

No, we haven't. When he's out, he's replaced by freshmen who are routinely out of position defensively

Look, Hellems is what he is. He's a good second option offensively and plays good defense. Yeah he'll take some questionable fadeaways from the elbow, but he's also gonna knock down 3s and take charges. Hayes is a much bigger disappointment based on how he played last year, especially down the stretch. He has seemingly regressed in most spectra of the game. He's not getting assists, he's taking TERRIBLE 3 pointers, he's not rebounding the ball. I think he's a bigger reason for any perceived shortcomings for this team than Hellems.

[Edited on December 6, 2021 at 3:03 PM. Reason : Like, off the dribble/stepback 3s are not good shots. That's why he's shooting 20%]

I used to hate how many deep 2s Hellems took, he started making them more last year (ish), but seems like he's just pushed them back a couple feet to be 3s now, which is alright by me
