XLT with Luxury Package and Ford 360 or whatever that nonsense is called

I picked some more things, like lights in the bed, but that's the gist of it.

Came in at just under $30k

Nice! You got the hybrid then? It’s such an interesting cross between economy and (some) utility.

Most of my builds I go with the ecoboost so I can get AWD. I want/need a pickup, but I need it to fit in my driveway and a super small parking lot at work. Stupid ass truck prices don’t help the equation either. I need to test drive before I’m finally convinced, but I’m liking the idea of the Maverick.

since I have an offroad toy and don't currently need to tow this one works for me

I'll probably end up giving the Maverick to Greylin and buying myself a Ram Warlock though

If you are using it to commute every day, but also swinging by the hardware store a couple times a month for lumber or bulky items, it seems like a pretty good tool for the job. A tool that had borderline disappeared from the market for the past decade.

I still haven’t been able to test drive one and haven’t even seen one on the street. Between reading about Dealer markup, the turrible recalls for the Bronco Sport (replacing control arms, wtf???) and just not being able to find one, I ended up going with a mid-size. I still think the Maverick might have been a better choice and would have saved me a few thousands dollars too.

^What did you buy?

I agree, the world needs more small application pick ups (like it did for over 50 years).

Used Nissan Frontier. I think the new Frontier was released and people started trading in their older frontiers to get in the new one. Between the higher supply and Frontiers not being quite as desirable as some of the other mid-size offerings, I felt like I had some options without having to pay some of the insane prices in the truck market.

Ford emailed me today:

"We have made an adjustment to the production date for your 2022 Maverick XLT.

Your vehicle is now scheduled to be built the week of February 7, 2022. We will continue to keep you informed regarding your vehicle's production status."

I wish they’d hurry up and build an AWD EV version that can tow a decent amount and not cost too much.

I called a Ford marketing line I saw posted in a Maverick forum. They now tell me that the truck should be delivered to the dealership by April 3rd.

Lemme go get my hopes up, again.

I'm gonna pick it up next weekend because they need to finish the tint on it and I need to do paperwork for it.

I've taken it on two road trips and it drives like a dream

running a quick errand yesterday I got 45 mpg

I have no problem overtaking on the highway

wait, you can't can't even option cruise control on the base model? WTF, that would be a hard stop on the entire vehicle for me. I wouldn't pay for pretty much anything on the higher trims, but I also wouldn't daily drive anything without CC.

[Edited on July 3, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Reason : I'm thinking a PHEV or EV Ranger might be the ticket if it comes out soon enough, though]

Cruise control is good for dead flat states like Florida and most of Texas, but I never use it in the Carolinas because I can get better fuel economy in manual mode. Considerably better. Cruise control has no anticipation, and I don't need it flooring the gas to take a slight incline at 65 MPH.

No cruise control is just typical Ford trim levels. The packages are such that you have to spend thousands to get features that are standard on other makes. If you want a Bronco with power seats you need basically top of the line trim level. If you want Apple Carplay on a Mustang you need to spend thousands above the base price.

There is 0% chance I will buy a brand new car without cruise control.

Yeah I hate it when manufacturers do that shit.

Unless it’s a really special car, that would have the opposite effect on me from getting me to buy upmarket. It would make me not buy at all. Withholding simple, key features from being available (I’m fine with them not being standard) makes the base model a non-starter, and making me spend 5-10k more to get $500-1000 worth of stuff I want would make me say “Fuck it…now it’s no longer a compelling deal.”

So how long until Ford starts making these with a separate bed and cab? You'd think they'd have learned from the Ranchero. Honda switched the Ridgeline after the first generation and I expect Ford to do the same.
