I don't know that this reflects my real-world experience.

Yea I think they are drawing the wrong conclusions. While yes, vaccinated individuals are going out and socializing, the unvaccinated/anti-vax crowd has tried to continue with life as usual from the onset, eschewing all safety measures. They still go to church unmasked, have large indoor family events unmasked, no recognition of social distancing, etc. Vaccinated individuals are going out now, but they are also wearing masks in crowds, masking indoors and also probably not going out unmasked when sick. So while the rate of socialization of the vaccinated has definitely gone up since this time last year when most of us were locked down, in general the unvaccinated are still engaging in more risky social behaviors than the vaccinated.
Purely anecdotal but I went to my class reunion last weekend back east in Roanoke Rapids, which was also the centennial of the school. We skipped the largest proceedings because mask wearing was probably at less than 5%. Our class reunion itself was held outdoors and the weather was great and attendance was far smaller, so we were able to spread out more. I went to one local restaurant for dinner and people looked at us weird because we walked in wearing masks. For comparison here in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, masks are required damn near everywhere and people do it without bitching for the most part. At the high school football games here I would say the mask rate is probably 50% or more and people space out and try to minimize their risks. We also did not have a Homecoming Dance to cut down on exposure as it would have been indoors and people dancing close together. Back east the Homecoming game was completely sold out and was standing room only. They also had the full dance. When I was back in RR I could likely count on my two hands the number of people who wore a mask at anytime. Their population is 1/3rd what the population of Orange County is, yet they have had 20% more deaths in total. So yeah I really don't think the vaccinated are the ones to point to as the problem here. The antivax crowd thinks all this shit is fake and just keeps going on with their lives with no masks or anything. 10/7/2021 11:03:58 AM |

Also anecdotal. About a month and a half ago my buddy came to Florida to visit me. He has Moderna & I got pfizer. We went to a couple of bars, socialized with the same people etc. I contracted & passed covid to my gf (who also has pfizer), he never had so much as a runny nose.

At my latest physical, a few weeks ago, my PA did an antibody test to see if she needs to recommend a booster. My antibody numbers were such that I could have only had an symptomatic case of covid at some point in the recent past - post-vaccination.
