This really is for a friend. She doesn’t want to be vaccinated and her company (she is a pharmacist) is is telling her she has to before January. I don’t want to debate her reasoning. But if she were to be fired for refusal she is asking if she could pull unemployment. Asking for anyone who has done this to see if they had issues with unemployment. It’s vague online. I know I’m likely going to be asked why my friend doesn’t want to be vaxed and all other hate but the facts are the facts and I’m not here to debate the reasons. Just an unemployment question for anyone else that has encountered it.

North Carolina resident. Company policy. And she has a PharmD so I’m not going to debate her choices as she is more educated on it than I. She asked me as a financial professional and even the unemployment office will not tell me the answer. So I was asking if anyone had real life experience. Thank you ^

I'd imagine a good chunk of that 30% are low wage hourly employees who often come from island nations and believe in natural medicine, etc. I wonder how many doctors who graduated medical school, for example, are unvaccinated. Of the highly educated healthcare workers who aren't vaccinated, I'd guess some of them have fallen victim to all the batshit anti-vax propaganda.

Healthcare workers (not pharmacists necessarily) are the people who most need to be vaccinated, since they spend a lot of time in contact with people who are immunocompromised and at high risk of COVID. So I don't have any sympathy for someone who spends their days around sick people but who won't get vaccinated, for whatever reason. Sounds like she needs to find a job in a different industry.

She actually is considering changing professions not because of vaccination but how shitty retail pharmacists are treated. And I have been in the room with her on conference calls and you would likely roll back the thoughts on how any of RPhs are anti vax. In fact the lower earning technicians are more adamant at being vaxed than the pharmacists. Again my purpose was not to create a vaccine debate. I just wanted to see if anyone had issues with unemployment in NC being fired because of it.

I can say with complete certainty that where I work (the #1 Pharmacy School in the country and the only one in the Triangle) our faculty vaccination rate is 99%. The wider campus rate is 94% of faculty and 88% of staff for a combined total of 90% as staff outnumber faculty. So yea, your friend is in the EXTREME minority of Pharmacists not getting her vaccine. And before you give me any "Did they get a real vaccine?" bullshit, I've been in flu and covid vaccine clinics with both staff and faculty put on by our students and they have been rolling their sleeve up and getting vaccinated just like the plebes. So yeah, I would like to provide a strong counterargument to what you are claiming as I work with many PharmD/PhD faculty members on a daily basis and have heard no hesitancy over the Covid vaccine. While I work on the education side a number of them are in the research track and have been doing studies on the vaccine and other SARS-CoV variants, so I feel their knowledge and expertise on this probably exceeds your friend who works at Walgreens or Walmart.

I won’t disclose her employer. It is a larger chain. But I am also friends with several of her friends who are pharmacists who feel the same way. Students may be more on the upside of vaccinated and I don’t have a large enough sample size to make blanket statements just the numbers I have heard on this company’s corporate calls. Again I do not want to argue her point just trying to find an answer if anyone has been denied unemployment benefits for refusal to attest.

The person I’m speaking of is running a financial plan with me and considering changing careers or companies over this so she wants to know if she’s fired will she be able to collect her benefits or not. She doesn’t need them. Wealth after 30 years of pharmacy but trying to weigh her options.

Also, many pharmacists are passing out fraudulent verifications to those who don’t want vax. If you have a friend in the game willing to swap cards it’s not hard.

So they will appear in the database and have a card with no vax. She isn’t one of these people but I know people who are so numbers may be lower than you think. In the education Avenue I would assume they are higher as younger demographic tends to be more open to new research.

I will state again, I do not need talking points to suggest someone get a vaccine. Just testimonial about unemployment. I have one answer on that by daave.

Everyone has their own limits on personal health and government control. I help people make financial decisions. I don’t tell my lawyer how to practice law, real estate agent sell property or accountant do taxes. They don’t tell me how to make them money or will soon be fired. I agree not to be a leach on the system and gather unemployment when not eligible. At one time I was laid off and chose not to file because I had something lined up. As I have said many times not a covid debate. I don’t take issue with those saying she should be vaxed but it’s not my call. It’s unemployment question that our state office will not answer.
