Very surprised Baby T isn't going pro. If Joiner can become the distributor we have been missing and we get some inside scoring from the transfers, we could be decent next year. Here I go talking myself back into NCState bball again.

This kind of thing doesn't happen these days, does it? Especially at NC State. He's forgoing a likely first round drafting and a bunch of $. But kudos, hopefully he'll become an NC State legend.

Glad to hear it. He is about the only thing I was looking forward to watching next year on our team. If he would have left, it would have been really bad.

The bad news is it's just enough that I'll actually watch games but prob not enough to improve much from last year.

Without him I may have felt ok mostly checking out

In stark contrast to my own pessimism about Keatts and his ability to coach thus far, I'm actually optimistic that we could finish in the top half of the ACC this season after seeing what he did this off-season.

- Terq has ACC POY type of talent. Whether he can be consistent enough remains to be seen, but I could see him taking a step-up this year and if he does then that makes us better than last year by itself
- Keatts going after two "scoring" traditional big men rather than athletic D-first guys could signal a change to his offense going forward. I personally would love to see us feed it inside more often.
- Cam Hayes leaving is actually addition by subtraction and although Seabron was decent at getting the ball up-court, he was not a facilitator. We had noone to regularly initiate offense and the only time our team has been decent under Keatts was when we had Markell. I'm optimistic that Joiner could fill that role.

I'm back in baby.....

Who the fuck was Seabron supposed to do pick and rolls with? Dowuona and Gibson? Motherfuckers could barely catch a ball.

^^ For me, it's not so much about the individuals that I am excited about--although I do think Joiner could be a massive upgrade over Cam--it's that the presence of a scoring big man could signal that Keatts is making adjustments to his offense.

Noone said anything about Seabron running pick and rolls. It isn't a controversial statement that basically any competent PG would be any upgrade over Cam Hayes and Seabron doing his best PG impression. That's not a knock on Seabron. He was our best player last year by a long shot. He isn't a PG, he just had to play one because Hayes was dogshit.

(I think I read earlier today that Seabron ran the point in some combine scrimmages and was impressive. I can't find where I read that, but I think I saw he had 30+ points)

Lol at predicting Cam and Thomas Allen leaving. Nobody expected Allen back….I’d guess 95% of fans didn’t even realize he still had more eligibility.

I still think we will finish in the bottom 3 of the ACC but now I can at least pull for Baby T to be the leading scorer in the ACC. Keeping my expectations low so maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

You're incredibly dumb or insane if you think that wasn't going to be a staple of the offense had Bates not gotten hurt in 56 seconds. Having a completely inept offensive player like Ebe meant that nobody was really helping off shooters when Seabron drove, so he had no one to kick out to.

I think you're getting mad at nothing this time, you should have just started out saying PnR with Bates would have likely seen Seabron be a better facilitator. As it was it just seemed like a non sequitor. Pretty easy to run PnR and still not facilitate.

It's hard to facilitate when you're essentially playing 4 on 5 on offense.

Not too worried, I made that statement before the NIL collaboration was formed and they collected nearly a million dollars to throw at Baby T.

Without that bag, he was gone.

Otherwise, I've been right on the money.
____

They will still likely be picked to finish last in the ACC and I don't foresee that being wrong. Not like the team got that much better. T adds some firepower, maybe he will lead the league in scoring. But I still think they finish last and Keatts is fired.

I think the vast majority of State fans fully expected Cam Hayes to transfer, Seabron to go pro, and Gibson to transfer. Bates probably caught some by surprise, but he nearly transferred last year and we all expected this to be his final season had he played. His injury was the only reason anybody thought he might return. And nobody expected thomas Allen back. So you can toot your horn, that’s fine. But you hardly deserve credit for bold, outlandish predictions that (mostly) came true

I there not a Terquavion Smith appreciation thread??

https://247sports.com/college/north-carolina-state/Article/Terquavion-Smith-NBA-Draft-returns-ESPN-NC-State-basketball-more-work-to-do-ACC-188174852/

Quote :
"RALEIGH, N.C. -- Terquavion Smith shocked many analysts across the country on Tuesday morning when he announced he would be returning to NC State for the 2022-23 season. The Wolfpack is returning a player that averaged more than 18 points and nearly three assists in ACC play last season.

Smith spoke to Jonathan Givony of ESPN in an exclusive interview about why he planned to return, pointing to the fact that there will be much more attention on him next year. And with that extra attention, it will also benefit NC State as a whole.

"If things go like I expect, I won't have to go through the combine experience the same way," Smith said. "Everyone will see my games and our team all season, we are going to make sure they are seeing something special. The NBA can wait one year, I have more work to do in the ACC first."

Last year, Smith was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and was an All-ACC Honorable Mention. His breakout season concluded with 96 3-pointers, which led the ACC and put him at fourth all-time for a freshman in ACC history.

And while his stock certainly ballooned during the NBA Draft Combine -- which meant more guaranteed money -- Smith said he is betting on himself for next year. The fact that NIL is a possibility for Smith when he returns, and you can bet he'll be a big name in the NC State NIL market, he said that was never at the root of his decision.

"I have to be honest and admit money has never been at the center of my thoughts," Smith said. "My agent explained to me that teams as high as the late teens, through the rest of the first round, all have me ranked as a first-round talent. It's exciting to hear that.

"But I told him I have more work to do. I like school and my college in particular. Remember, my last two years have been so strange, thanks to the pandemic. I just want one more season to get everything right and just be a college student."

One note that Givony touched on in his story is the fact that Smith only had two other offers out of high school and was not a major recruit. While that's partially true, a major reason for his two offers -- East Carolina and High Point -- was solely due to the fact that he committed to NC State following his sophomore year at Farmville Central and never wavered.

He's doing the exact same now as a student-athlete, and a major part of that is the connection with Kevin Keatts and the players around him.

Current projections may have Smith as a potential first-round pick for this year, but analysts already had Smith as a potential lottery pick for next year if he returned. And that was before the Draft Combine. After? Yeah, he looks like a surefire lottery pick for next year with Top-10 upside as he continues to develop in Raleigh."
