It's 2023 and time to reset the book reading challenge. Let's all try to read one book a week this year, but if that's too much just list whatever you read because reading is fun. Also, try to rate the books you finish from 1 to 10 so other people can see what might be a good book to pick up.

I'm just gonna bail on A Winter's Tale. This has been such a crazy year for me I really haven't had time to read like I like, so I'm just gonna switch to a shorter more manageable book for now and come back to AWT later.
I was in a Baltimore bookstore today and ran across The Unicorn Girl, which is the 2nd in the Greenwich Village trilogy, which I had never heard of before today, so I'm starting with the first book. It's some hippy sci-fi stuff from the 60s. 7/30/2023 11:12:41 PM |

I've read this before, but a long time back. Gonna re-read it and then continue the trilogy.

I might be missing one, I’m lucky if I can get through 1 book per month. But the list is something like this:
1) A Woman of No Importance - Sonia Purnell. True story of a WW2 spy (a lady spy!). I’m not great at giving reviews or analysis. I either liked it or I didn’t. In this case, i liked it. 2) Dead Wake - Erik Larson. Really enjoyed this one. Very similar storytelling style to Devil in the White City. I thought this was super good and would highly recommend it. It’s not too dense and doesn’t drag (which I find some non fiction history to do). Favorite book I’ve read recently. 3) The Vanishing Velazquez - Laura Cumming. Deep dive into the history and story behind a lost piece of art. I’m not an art history buff, so some of the references and details were lost on me. But the story and mystery was interesting nonetheless. 4) Truth of the Divine - Lindsay Ellis. Sci Fi, sequel to Axiom’s End. Third book in the trilogy is not released yet. I generally prefer history, non fiction stuff as you can gather from this list. But occasionally I’ll gravitate toward sci fi stuff for a break from the history. Just kinda dipping my toe into the sci fi genre for now. 5)The Professor and The Madman - Simon Winchester. Pretty good!
Currently Reading: A Gentleman in Moscow - Amor Towles. 8/22/2023 9:38:51 AM |

Slow burn, but the writing style kept it interesting and kept it from dragging. Really good pay off in the final third of the book. Historical fiction set in early to mid 20th century Russia.
