Well that project will probably take months to complete and they probably didn't want to take the chance that they would be completely without it for the stadium series game so they held off until after it to start. Also they weren't going to fix something they're going to demolish immediately afterwards.

Yeah, definitely no sense in fixing something that's about to be demo'd. Apparently the Canes brought in their own portable video board, but not sure how big or visible it was.

On that note, I saw on Twitter yesterday you can buy pieces of the board. $200 a letter, $500 a panel I think? I guess if you've got the money, why not.

Yea, demolishing it beforehand would have been silly. This is a major project and will tear up nearly the whole end with how big the new system is.

Agreed, I didn’t realize the current board is being replaced. Still wish they would’ve had the foresight to get a new board in place before the hockey game. Oh well, at least it’ll be fixed next season

Well I'm assuming that the plan was always to replace the scoreboard this offseason. A construction project that big probably isn't the easiest or cheapest thing to get rescheduled, hell it was probably impossible to move the construction up a whole year (remember, the hockey game was originally supposed to be 2 years ago.) There was no way to do it in the < 3 months since the last football game.

If the Hurricanes/NHL really wanted that board fixed they would have had to basically offer to pay whatever difference in cost would have been to push construction up an entire year but obviously neither one did and they would have had to do it in 2020/21 when the game initially got pushed back.

In the end, a subpar video board is incredibly small potatoes. It had no effect on the TV broadcast, which was the much bigger impact of this game.
