There are new rules like the pitch clock, bigger bases, and limits on the shift.
Some players are on new teams this year. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out! 2/26/2023 4:50:06 PM

I like the pitch clock. Don't like limiting shifts. Maybe players should just learn to hit better or fuckin bunt to the side of the field with no players. But i guess there's no chance of a homerun when doing those things so they are bad. 2/26/2023 7:30:59 PM

double post.
I guess I am in the minority, but i am completely OK with banning the shift. I don't want to wait an entire generation to see hitters that have adapted to hitting to all sides.
If you can blast one between the first and second baseman, that should be a hit. not a long ground out to the short fielder out in right.

Most sports amend rules to favor the offense and this is no different. So I get it. But it sorta feels like the defense should be able to adjust their alignment based on a batter’s tendencies (which they are still allowed to do just to a far lesser degree). I see both sides and I don’t really feel strongly either way I guess 2/28/2023 8:39:31 AM

I don't think there should be any rules about where position players line up. If a team wants to have 7 guys in the outfield, go for it. 6 guys standing on first base? Sure why not. Everyone standing in a straight line behind the pitcher leading to 2nd base? Weird but ok.
^^it's not that batters today can't hit to beat the shift. They could if they wanted to, but it would mean they would have to not be trying to hit home runs. And in modern baseball that's basically no better than an out. Nobody is stopping guys from bunting into the wide open areas of fields, or hitting a ground ball. But then they would have to not swing for the fences which is all that anyone tries to do today because the math says always swinging for a home run is better in the long run. Baseball analytics have already killed of most strategy and game management. Now they are banning defenses to that strategy.] 2/28/2023 12:26:14 PM
