On the one hand good to have the Rialto coming back, on the other hand Hayes is sort of insufferable and I don’t know that I’m down for what he wants to do with the place 5/9/2023 8:28:39 PM |

he’s a local who grew up in the local theater scene
also sounds like he got funding from other locals/the blessing from the former owner
not sure what he could do to fuck it up 5/9/2023 9:29:14 PM |

Rialto back but never shows movies so kinda what I was worried about. Seems to be mostly low rent musical acts. Fine if you're into that I guess but was hoping that even with the diversification there'd be more than one movie shown every couple months.1/23/2024 7:43:00 PM |

I had a religious experience while seeing Stop Making Sense there last fall
that’s better than it being permanently closed
also, having a locally owned, independent music venue is an objectively great thing, regardless of the acts being booked

^^Yeah I guess I just figure there's enough neat music venues around for that level of act but not that many indie movie theaters. Helps that Alamo is here but still that's a chain too even if its a pretty good one.
Agree it's better than completely closed, just would be nice to not balance in some more films but I suppose economics are at play too 1/29/2024 6:43:25 PM |

just got this timely email:
Quote : | "We've been closed all of January after a blowout December with Christmas movies galore. Really excited to have an HGTV-worthy team (shout-out AP Designs and Deacon Built!) giving us a lobby makeover that we see as being a key part of bringing the Rialto 2.0 to Raleigh.
Speaking of The Rialto 2.0, we've fielded a lot of questions about whether showing movies is still a part of our plans. The short answer is a resounding YES. Movies will always be a cornerstone of The Rialto experience, as we hope anyone who made it out to Christmas movies or the return of The Rocky Horror Picture Show can attest.
The longer answer is that there are miles of red tape to wade through with the studios to be able to show movies, especially first run movies. And while we waded through many miles to show a full slate of Christmas classics, we have a few more to go before we're ready to bring the movie experience fully back. But we have some upcoming documentaries slated and, did we hear there were some Oscar snubs? Maybe we should host a week of screenings for one of the Best Picture nominees. Hmmm....stay tuned.
Hope to see you at the shows soon. - Hayes" |
