Did any of you use webassign before NC state sold it off to cengage?

Was it free for us then? was it better?

I feel like it was free and didn't have any extra fees tied into textbooks or tuition, but I graduated in '07, man!

I used webassign from my dorm laptop and it seemed to work fine without any qualms.

I used WebAssign from 2002 to 2006.

The below makes it sound like it was spun off as an independent company around that same time, though still located on campus. I had John Risley as a physics professor.

I used it, sure.

Right after I graduated, some idiot who worked for WebAssign posted a thread in Study Hall offering to tamper with WebAsssign submissions for money. Risley fired him for it.

I remember when webass was new, and I hated it. Chemistry was the first class for it was used, in my case.

Now it costs like 70-100 per class. If it was just a textbook, I have other options, but they tie it in to the graded homework.

Meanwhile the physics department says they can't grade for partial credit on tests cause they don't have enough resources, which makes me wonder how homework was graded before webassign, or if homework was a part of your grade at all.

I wish they could've at least worked out a special deal for nc state students when they sold it off lol
would've been cool

Ha I worked as a question coder in '03 I think. Would copy questions from text books then put the formulas and variables in for randomization.

Don't miss using that in school

Used webassign for free in both hs and college from 01-08ish

Wild that they're making individual students pay for it now instead of doing some sort of institutional license.

Can you still find all of the webassign questions/answers on Yahoo Answers?

I haven't see any on yahoo answers, but most are usually available on one site or the other with the numbers slightly changed

WebAssign was fine, it was still just doing math on your own and then entering in the solutions -- but all this stupid courseware for GEPs and other courses is so stupid.

I actively feel like I'm dumbing myself down answering these dumb ass questions. If you want us to learn, then maybe encourage reading physical textbooks so I don't have to stare into a stupid screen for an hour just for this stupid class. It's like we're five year olds clicking in answers to multiple choice questions.

I mean, hell, forget the cost, it's just a waste of time and brainpower. If anything, bring some more rigor into it, assign me an essay or something, but STOP, JUST STOP WITH THE BULLSHIT.

No. Most of them have a passion for research. Teaching is a thorn in their side - something they have to do.

I know what you're talking about, and I've been around those guys, and they're different. They may not be good teachers, but the way they approach, you can still see the mindset they're coming from.

There are some people, however, who just seem to be where they are cause they were in the right place and climbed the ladder while they were at it.

I used it when it was free.
I stopped using it when they started to charge for it, and took the hit to my grades for "not doing the homework".
The look on professor's faces when I said that, and said that they could give me real paper questions instead, was always fun.

I used webassign before ncsu fully adopted it when I was in high school 20+ years ago. it was free, it also was very easy to view the javascript source for the answers. i never found it helpful

Sometimes I can just feel it, like how you catch a whiff of something that takes you back
but it isn't real

Man

Are you OK, or are these just lyrics to a song I don't know? Recent posts seem to have increasingly less to do with WebAssign.
