What were your personal experiences?

What are your thoughts on the debate around it -- both the event itself, and the political ramifications afterwards.

It happened, it should be remembered, and studied like any other historical event.

It will forever leave a mark in my memory (I was in the bookstore, back when it was in a different location) when the first tower got hit, and watching the news in a professor's office in Daniels when the first building fell.

I recently heard that it's "Patriot Day". I don' think I'd heard that before, and find it pretty dumb.

Quote :
"From 2009 to 2016, President Barack Obama proclaimed September 11 as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, in observance of Pub. L. 111–13 (text) (PDF), the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.[3][4][5][6][7] In 2017, President Donald Trump proclaimed September 8–10 as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance,[8][9][10] and proclaimed September 11 as Patriot Day.[11][12][13][14] President Trump also did so in 2018,[15] 2019,[16] and 2020 as well.[17] After Joe Biden was elected president in 2021, he also issued an Executive Order for Patriot Day 2021[18], Patriot Day 2022[19], and Patriot Day 2023.[20]"

"He also said al Qaeda has found it "easy for us to provoke and bait this administration."

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations," bin Laden said."

Quote :
"As part of the "bleed-until-bankruptcy plan," bin Laden cited a British estimate that it cost al Qaeda about $500,000 to carry out the attacks of September 11, 2001, an amount that he said paled in comparison with the costs incurred by the United States.

"Every dollar of al Qaeda defeated a million dollars, by the permission of Allah, besides the loss of a huge number of jobs," he said. "As for the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars.

The total U.S. national debt is more than $7 trillion. The U.S. federal deficit was $413 billion in 2004, according to the Treasury Department.

"It is true that this shows that al Qaeda has gained, but on the other hand it shows that the Bush administration has also gained, something that anyone who looks at the size of the contracts acquired by the shady Bush administration-linked mega-corporations, like Halliburton and its kind, will be convinced.

"And it all shows that the real loser is you," he said. "It is the American people and their economy.""

We should basically just forget it. We’re like someone wallowing In their trauma who defines themselves by the worst thing that happened to them. 9/11 shouldn’t define any part of America, it doesn’t represent courage or strength or unity and we should collectively pretend it never happened.

^^A lot of people assume bin was a caveman.
For all the remembrance, people don't know much.

I guess he both got what he wanted and didn't.
On one hand, the US has greatly suffered from its own hand as a result.
And on the other, many Muslims, innocent or otherwise, have been decimated by the United States.

1796 treaty of tripoli:
Quote :
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

Well, it had to fall out sometime!
Gotta love those jeffersonians though...

Fuck. That.

We may have totally fucked up our responses and paths forward in a lot of ways in the 2 decades since, but what you're suggesting is definitely not the answer.

Honestly I think 9/11 is what sent us a on a course to the shitshow that is America today. It was a seed bomb to eat us away from the inside and it worked all too well.
