Feminists will hate that I have to put it this way, but Barbie slaps.
I hadn't watched the trailer/read reviews/knew zero about it, and went into into in blind, but I really dug the cinematography and double entrendre. Ryan Gosling is a terrible actor, which is why he was so perfectly cast.
If you're bored over the Holidays (and have access to edibles), I suggest watching it my bros. 12/7/2023 3:31:52 AM |

I've been planning on seeing since I first started reading about it.
I've liked Gosling in a few other things I've seen him in.
I've never really got into Kanye West. 12/7/2023 2:12:55 PM |

he was perfectly cast because he’s a great comedic actor and the role was written for him
terrible actors don’t get major roles written for them12/7/2023 2:16:37 PM |

that’s an absurdly high bar, since she is one of the greatest actors of her generation, if not the best 12/7/2023 3:04:17 PM |

^Thought about posting that.
BTW, that is still a really great movie. Too bad it isn’t streaming anywhere that doesn’t require renting it. 12/8/2023 8:45:44 AM |

If you’re going to make a movie about Barbie for a general adult audience, this is the best possible Barbie movie
But I found the writing ham fisted as someone who’s extremely online and flooded with commentary about patriarchy all the time 12/20/2023 5:50:19 PM |

Just watched this on a flight. Was more bad than good, but not horrible…just kind of weird. Didn’t make sense 12/22/2023 1:40:08 PM |

I haven't seen the movie, but I saw this scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuiOU5VhqQ0
And I'm not gonna lie, Idk why all those cringe dark horse ben shapiro types were so pissed about this. It made me feel very proud- 12/22/2023 3:51:38 PM |

I finally saw it, I thought it was really good. Sure, some of it felt a little over-the-top/preachy, but I was expecting that. But I thought it was very well done, and I look forward to seeing it again some time.
^^What do you mean, it "didn't make sense"? Like there being a "Barbie Land' where all the girls are Barbies and all the guys are Kens (and Allan)?

^I don’t get your preachy thing? It wasn’t that…its just that it literally didn’t seem to flow. Like goofy as fuck idk how else to say it. Like the premise was already bad but the story didn’t make up for it? It wasn’t all bad, at least 3 or 4 quips that got a laugh. Just over rated? 1/5/2024 12:39:42 AM |

Margot Robbie got...how shall I put this...? ROBBED. Not saying she should win, but she at least deserved an Oscar nomination. 1/24/2024 3:54:25 PM |

I’m of the mindset that it’s better to not be nominated if you’re not going to win, which she wasn’t
I also think of the two, Gosling was more deserving of a nomination
I adore Gerwig, but the directors category was stacked, and someone was always gonna be left out 1/24/2024 5:01:47 PM |

I haven't seen it, but from those who have, I get the idea that the movie was more about Ken then it was Barbie, in terms of the arc and story.

Eh, IDK about that. It's Barbie's world and Ken's just living in it, albeit humorously, not really the other way around. Just watch it. 1/25/2024 3:15:21 PM |

It was a blockbuster summer tentpole film and a comedy, the fact that it has as many nominations as it does is a win based on recent Academy Awards trends.
Robbie was not going to win, it should and will be Emma Stone for Poor Things.
And comedic films rarely get noms for Directing 1/25/2024 3:35:11 PM |
