The election is Nov 2nd. But early voting is easy and happens well before then. I made a pic on where and when you can vote in Wake county since I imagine most tdubbers are here. But for those in other parts of NC you can get info at this link:
http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/GetDocument.aspx?id=2411
If you wait until voting day you'll have to vote at your precinct, but if you early vote you can do it at any location which makes it more convenience (plus lines are very rare for early voting).
If you do wait until election day to vote, you can find your voting site here: http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/content.aspx?id=28
***Warning, I get political if you go any further***
Of course the big race this election cycle for NC is the senate seat. I'm not a big fan of the incumbent Richard Burr.
Quote : | "Economy - When he was first learning of the severity of the recession he told his wife to go to the ATM day after day taking out all the money it would allow b/c he was convinced that in a few days "if you put a plastic card in an ATM machine the last thing you were going to get was cash" which earned him the nickname Bank Run Burr. And, after his meeting with representatives from Goldman Sachs, who then gave the max allowed contribution to his campaign, he took a strong stand against Wall Street Reform. In fact Burr has gotten more money from out of state that in state for many years now, this year is no different. We know who he represents.
Environment - He tends to rate horribly here. According to Wikipedia: "Burr has generally received low ratings from environmental-protection organizations. In 2007-2008, for example, he received a rating of 0% from Environment America[17], 12% from the League of Conservation Voters, and 29% from Republicans for Environmental Protection." And he's taken plenty of cash from big oil like Haliburton, BP, and others which is reflected in his voting record.
Gay Rights - He's against repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell and favors an amendment to the US constitution to write in a ban of gay marriage which even his Libertarian opponent has called him out on for wasting government time/money on trying to rewrite the constitution with more of his social conservatism.
Obstructionist - Even with the military. In addition to participating in filibuster threats, he held up Duckworth's nomination to a key position in the office of veteran affairs despite her strong qualifications. He specifically also let generals travel from Korea and Hawaii to Washington DC for a meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee and then canceled the meeting as a part of a larger party wide effort of obstructionism to not even let meetings happen. And his recent efforts have attempted to block unemployment relief and small business support efforts.
War - Burr says we still need several more years of war. Whereas Elaine has challenged President Obama on amount of conflict we're involved with.
Washington Incumbent - This one might not be a big deal to everyone, but I know for some people they don't like politicians who have been in Washington forever, and Burr has been in Washington for nearly 2 decades. But after nearly 2 decades it’s hard to name any big Burr accomplishments unless you want to count his attempt to make flag burning illegal?
Women's issues - He voted against Franken's anti-rape amendment which passed with many Dem & GOP votes. He also voted for domestic violence to continue as a pre-existing condition. He’s anti-choice and he voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act." |
Another issue is control of the NC General Assembly. Both parties suck here. But the GOP unanimously voted against giving parents the option to have comprehensive sex at schools (not required, just giving them the option). It just started a few weeks ago, and it may disappear after only one year if they take over. (there also are some campaign finance reform measures that I like that neither state party supports enough for my liking, but many more dems than gop on the state level). I still recommend voting for candidates on a case by case basis. If there is an issue you care about, google it to find a name for the bill, then plug it in here to found out how ppl voted (I use it all the time, especially on animal welfare issues like Susie's law to prevent animal abuse, & attempts to ban puppy mills since they rarely make the news, but the info is there if you look for it):

I have been trying to vote early for the past few days. I will go tomorrow morning!
I love that my professor is making it extra credit. We just have to bring in the sticker. I am sure others will cheat but mine will be FOR REALS! 10/26/2010 2:35:38 PM |

so, is the extra credit based on who you vote for? like -2 for Marshall or +5 for Burr? 10/31/2010 9:59:21 PM |
