course comments :Very broad material, from economics to linear programming. Pretty dull class.

class comments :There were only 3 homeworks or so, along with 2 tests and a final. Pretty boring class. If you pay attention and take good notes, it's an easy A. Don't bother buying the book, I don't think I opened it more than once.

instructor comments :Good guy, the material was boring. Very friendly and helpful, prompt grader.

course comments :Broad topics of material that is covered. Not the easiest class in the world

class comments :Homework ~once a week. Material vastly different from each other (~3 main topics) so it's easy to just kinda pick up from the middle of the semester without having to know much about the first part.

course comments :this class honestly made me want to jump out the window when i actually went to class. we covered interest, linear and integer programming. the course was required but i really don't see why. there was a lot of material that was all very dull and boring.
class :Fall 2003 section 001
grade received :B

class comments :as i said above this class was just terrible. the class was extremely boring and difficult at times. the class required about one in-depth homework a week that normally required 2-4 hours outside class time. there was no attendance policy, and the class never let out early. there was no book for this class.

instructor comments :Let me just clarify that the teacher of this course was Ranji Ranjithan. there must be a typo with the name. anyway, this guy was an artist at putting people to sleep. all he did was talk, talk, and talk some more. what really annoyed me was he stalled the class until 12:35 every class period. he would just ramble on and on until it was time to go. he could have let us out early at least 90% of the time. the only reason he doesn't get a horrible is he let us have cheat sheets on all tests

course comments :kinda like an economics class aimed towards civil engineering. It was interesting at time, boring at others, nothing like any other CE classes I've taken thus far.
class :Fall 2003 section 002

class comments :No attendance policy, no books required to be bought, but the class did require some pretty challenging homework.
instructor :Gupta

instructor comments :He knows the material very well. However, he would make students feel uncomfortable asking questions because he would answer the question in a way to make you feel stupid in front of the class.

course :CE 375
course rating :3 - Good
course comments :material is very interesting...pay attention in class and you'll learn some real cool stuff on how to solve some real interesting problems...the first half of the class is a little lame with the engineering economics...but the linear programming really challenges you to think abstractly...
class :Fall 2004 section 001
grade received :B+
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :the class requires a good deal of work....there's a project to do that has a short paper...but its not too hard....lots of hw during the first half of the semester when you're doing economics...but the hw lessesns as you get into linear programming....lectures are long and sometimes get boring since you'll do one problem all class..try to pay attention but don't feel bad about bringing the technician....no books to buy
instructor :Ranjithan
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :rarely hard to understand...and very legible writing....assignments sometimes graded unfairly...but blame the TAs not ranji....he was always availabe outside of class...and seemed to want to answer questions....laughs at dumb questions in class....gives u the look of "are you serious" but will answer it anyway...doesn't like it when you start packing up early

course comments :The material reads like a boring textbook. It's all fairly simple, but if you don't pay attention to the finer points (Read: Everything) in the reading, you'll probably screw yourself over somewhere down the line.

class comments :Little work. Missing class isn't a big issue. Material covered in class is mostly review, with no notes whatsoever being of any help in the class. Homework doesn't cover every problem covered on the final exam. You'll need to read deeply through every reading for your notes and practice those practice problems for your exams.

instructor comments :He can speak clearly, he can grade things quickly, he's fairly nice out of class (sort of) and fairly friendly and humerous, but it doesn't really help given this class. He likes to use acronyms too much on finals. You can figure them out, but it's confusing. The textbook manner in which he speaks and writes his tests will also burn you out in a minute. If you can't deal with that, put off this class and take it with a different instructor.
