course comments :Useful class, sometimes material is superfluous. The book was geared towards agricultural majors so most of the word problems were at least close to home. Required course. Well-paced material. Easy if one kept up with the assignments.
class :Fall 2000 section 006
grade received :N/A
class rating :1 - Bad
class comments :I was bored out of my mind the entire semester. I sat with a friend (when I came to class) and did homework for the class since I couldn't understand the prof. The lectures were less useful than the book by a LONG shot. The assigned homeworks basically taught me the material.
instructor :Dagalp
instructor rating :1 - Bad
instructor comments :Unless you are from Turkey don't take this professor! She was a sweetheart but couldn't clearly or understandably present the material. Used overheads with small typeface, copied straight from the book. Her accent made it impossible for me to understand what she was saying, even though I usually can get used to accents. On a positive note, she was receptive to feedback. Assignments were graded fairly (by a TA).

course comments :ST 311 is as good as it can be ... the material is fairly dry, but easy. The coursepack is great (jimmy wrote it) and explains everything very well.
class :Fall 2002 section 009
grade received :A
class rating :4 - Awesome
class comments :With Jimmy, you can pretty much do your homework on your own (either sitting in class during the 3 hour lecture) or just not go to class and turn it in. He gives a break every hour (so most people leave after the first hour if you understand that night's lecture.) He never took attendance. If you make an A or A+ after the tests, you just need to turn in 2 more homework assignments and you can skip the final exam.
instructor :Doi
instructor rating :4 - Awesome
instructor comments :I had signed up for too many hours and planned on dropping this one ... I came the first night and decided to keep it because Jimmy was such a great prof. He really relates to students, makes statistics more than numbers, gives good examples and envolves students in sample statistics test about interesting things like "How many ST 311 students have tried illegal drugs before" or "What is the average height difference between students and their significant others." He was very friendly and easy

Book was required but never used except for a few tables in the back of it. Three tests plus a comprehensive final - none too tricky if you do the homework and review your notes before the test.

class comments :Sometimes I fell asleep. And I talked in my sleep. I used the time to read books or do homework. The lectures are about stat so I can't possibly think of a way to make them interesting. If you go to lectures with guest speakers outside of class you can score a little extra credit. There were 9 homework assignments; they were due about every other week. Quiz almost every Friday - helps if you've done homework BEFORE you take the quiz. ;)

instructor comments :Rather interesting person. He doesn't like statistics very much but he's knowledgable in bioinformatics and genetics. He seems a little eccentric but he's a nice guy to talk to. Very willing to help students. TA grades assignments promptly. One thing that really impressed me was that he knows ALL of our names and he did it within 2 weeks of school- that's pretty cool for class with more than 40 people in it. :)

instructor :
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :Van Orden comes across terribly, saying UMM a lot, but after the first couple classes, you get over that. He seems to know the material very well, but he will explain it different ways until you do. He holds multiple review questions, and they are very beneficial, it is there that he just directly tells you how to do things and answers questions.

instructor :
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :From what I saw, she seemed pretty good about knowing her stuff, and helping the class. Prompt with returned grades, and was kinda funny. I'm pretty sure she graduated, tho, so i think she's done teaching this.

instructor :Dasah
instructor rating :4 - Awesome
instructor comments :Bit confusing as far as speech, but that is the only bad thing about him. He's accessible after class. His lectures aren't necessary, but going to class helps. Take this guy.
