class comments :Pretty good stuff for the most part. The tests could be a little tricky with the multiple choice, and the end of year project is graded pretty harshly. Make sure to write alot on pval and basically go back and do all the old matlab's on your experiment. No big gripes tho. Pretty standard fare, easier than calculus I thought.

class comments :The best part about the class was that it was web-based. The homework wasn't so bad (1 WebAssign each week), but some of it took a little while (and some reading from the book, his online notes were sometimes confusing). The tests were 20 questions, multiple choice. I might have done better if I actually cared about statistics.

course comments :Some important concepts taught in here. Pay attention. Important for some later classes also (at least in Comp Sci). Pretty straightforward material for the most part, but if you want to understand it, read the book and take your own notes as you start out. The book is great. Feel free to pm me any questions you might have.

class comments :Thompson teaches very by the book. He writes stuff on the board and says it aloud as he writes. He is very open to questions though. I actually prefer this style of teaching, it's a lot better for actually learning the material than lecture slides, because you go through things step-by-step. The tests he gives are definitely straightforward and the homeworks are very representative of them.

instructor comments :A great guy. Everything is open notes/open book, even the final. Always started class 5 minutes early but let out on time. Always nice to everybody and very helpful. No attendance policy.

course :ST 370
course rating :2 - Average
course comments :This course is not very difficult. It is like AP high school statistics but with a dash of calculus (a small dash) and some experiment design. Not much material.
class :Fall 2005 section 002
grade received :A+
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :Dr. Arroway made the class more interesting with in class work, instead of long drawn out lectures. Book is not worth buying since all test material comes from notes. Webassigns ridiculously easy. She presents material effectively.
instructor :Arroway
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :She present material very well, writing a few notes and then talking about them. Doesn't fly through stuff and answers questions. Gives in class work to help us understand right away the material. She takes awhile to respond to emails and get things graded. Sometimes cynical and gets very annoyed at people reading papers, talking, or sleeping during class, and will call you out on it. Sometimes it felt like our class was a burden for her. But she handles it all well.

course comments :Easy, easy, easy. Especially if you took stat in high school. This class is a breeze compared to the math you have to do for most engineering classes. Tests were mix of multiple choice and free response.

class comments :Book was worthless, expensive, and hard to understand. Other than that, no complaints. Grade based on best 3 out of 4 tests and the final (which is cumulative), as well as hw and a group project. Homework was short and ususally simple, also not assigned often. There was sometimes a matlab section of the homework though. You could bring a page of notes for the tests.

instructor comments :It was his first semester at State so he seemed a little uncertain. But he is a very nice guy and really wants the students to do well. Was helpful outside of class and easy to contact.
