course comments :I'm a Human Resource major, and this course is required. Very interesting concepts about the staffing process. You learn about the hiring process of companies, important topics such as affirmative action, EEO laws, and so forth. Lot of legal issues to remember and apply to certain hiring situations.

class comments :The tests are somewhat difficult. Dr. Davis makes sure you pay attention to detail, so make sure you study thoroughly. Only drawback is, the "white papers" from the SHRM website are required readings, but you have to be a member of SHRM to read the white papers, which means you have to pay for membership fees. You can get the papers from someone else, if you don't want to sign up, however.

instructor comments :The class is interesting but Dr. Davis is horrible. She gets real impatient while teaching the class, as if she expects you to unrealistically master the material before coming to class. She gets real hyper during her lectures. She tends to pick favorites in the class, whom are usually SHRM members, and she likes to berate others. Her tests are difficult as well; the questions are way too abstract. She is extremely picky too in grading the group project, picking apart the smallest details.

course comments :A lot of material including a project where you have to work with a corporation. It's great experience though if you are willing to do a good job. If you want to go into management, this is probably information you will need to know.

class comments :You really need to understand the concepts in order to do well on tests- knowing definitions is not enough. Try to get a hold of some of her old tests to study from- the questions are different, but it will show you the types of multiple choice questions you will see on the actual tests. Class is run very professionally- read the syllabus before acting so you know the correct proceedure.

instructor comments :If you follow her established proceedures, you will not have any problems with Dr. Davis. As for favoring SHRM student leaders, she does not, but these students tend to do better b/c they have a vested interest in the material and pay better attention. You do not have to join SHRM to gain access to the readings- you can get a membership number from someone else to access those. I have never known Dr. Davis to be unfair; if you have a conflict with her then you are not following the rules/doin

class comments :Good presentation of material. Two application exercises would've been more useful if you didn't get bogged down in the details of how to submit it - she's a stickler. Mostly powerpoint, with some real-life examples thrown in for discussion. Do the practice quizzes from the CD, a few questions from there show up on the tests.

instructor comments :She's a class-A bitch. Berated me for not reading her syllabus in full when I tried to give an excuse letter for a University-approved trip two days into the semester. She seems to be a man-hater, every example on discrimination involved male/female conflict. Super strict grader on HW. Clear speaker, she'd have been a much better teacher if she wasn't mean to all her students. Not approachable at all.

instructor comments :She is very intelligent, but she is very self-centered and rude. Don't dare ask her a question before class. Her test questions are unneccesarily theorized. She does NOT bend on the rules. She is not friendly and she will not explain anything to you. She expects us to already know everything.

instructor comments :Negative rating is needed. The lady is the definition of bitch. First day of class she stopped class and lectured a student for going to use the bathroom. Answers respectful email questions about assignments with snide remarks. Bends over backwards for HR students but could really care less about the rest of the group. Told us not to study old tests for our final exam, then goes and pulls a bunch of questions from them. Avoid at all costs

She treats no one with respect and works based on the assumption that everyone is irresponsible and that they need to be taught that they can't be that way in the real world. The extra credit is BS. If you want a decent grade you have to pay hard to come by for poor college students money to join her stupid HR club. Seems like she has a nice scam going on there. (make people join who would not otherwise do so and get lots of national recognition) Bull Chit

class comments :5 tests and 2 assignments. The tests were really hard and she took off points for stupid reasons on the assignments. Took attendance everday, though I don't think it really factored into the grade. NEVER let out early, and was irate if you left early or came in late.

instructor comments :Probably the worst teacher I've had at NC State. My dad is a human resource manager and has taught graduate level courses in human resources and after looking at my tests from this class, he asked if it was taught by a grad. student.

instructor comments :Test are way too analyzed, grades like a bitch. You basically have to do all of her extra credit to get a decent grade in the class. She hands out extra points slips if you participate in the class but makes you look stupid if you ask a question that SHE thought it was a stupid.

course comments :You learn the complexities of Human Resources and about laws and regulations that you have to follow in the workplace. Some things are interesting.

class comments :I took the class distance ed, so I was never actually in class. She was a really good speaker and really knowledgable about the subject. You get major extra credit in this class for joining her SHRM club ($40) and going to see out of class speakers. The tests were kind of hard at first, but once you realized how strict and straightforward she was, they weren't bad. Know each topic inside and out and go to class so you know what she is looking for you to learn and you'll do fine.

instructor comments :She is really really strict and specific on what she wants. She will kick your ass if you don't follow her instructions exactly. But if you do, you won't have a problem with anything and will get a good grade. Sucking up helps some too, but deep down, she is really mean. She was often mean to students and disrespectful and never admitted doing something wrong or making a question tricky. She's anal.

class comments :Davis made this class unnecessarily difficult. The material in the book was easy to understand, but she asked ridiculous exam questions that were nearly impossible to understand. I guess you have to ask hard questions in a class with easy material to get a 'favorable' distribution in the grades. Treated us all like high schoolers.

instructor comments :WHAT A BITCH. She failed someone the first or second day of class because his bookbag was in the isle. When she asked him to move it and he didnt do it immediately she attempted to move it herself. He told her not to touch his stuff. She then asked for his name and told him to leave and not come back telling him he failed.
