course :ST 101
course rating :3 - Good
course comments :Easy material. Don't bother buying the book, you won't need it.
class :Fall 2003 section 001
grade received :A
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :Pretty easy course. Get lots of points just for going to class. At the end, we had a total of 600 possible points, 150 came from in class activities, which are impossible to get anything but full credit on if you're there. Final exam was out of 200 pnts. Besides that, we had 2 quizes, a midterm, and a couple of small projects.
instructor :Woodard
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :Keeps the class interesting, walks around the class while he lectures and has a very clear voice. Lots of examples and practice for the material taught. Graded material closely follows what he has taught, with few surprises.

course :ST 507
course rating :3 - Good
course comments :Course is good---a decent amount of material but not overload. You do not need to know anything about statistics to take this course.
class :Spring 2004 section 001
grade received :A-
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :The instructor presented the material for this class VERY well. The book was lousy. I don't advise reading it, because it would just start confusing me. You DO need to buy it though, because most of the study questions come from the book. Although the study questions are "optional," they should definitely be done (test questions are similar). Grade is mostly based on tests and quizzes; the two written assignments (analysing statisitics results) were not worth much compared to the others.

instructor comments :Dr. woodard was excellent. He explained things VERY well and explained the why behind things. He had a good personality and was very friendly. Overall a fair grader, but be advised there is no curve and no extra credit. My one complaint was that he did not always post grades and assignments on WebCT when he said he would (especially near the end of the semester). This made it hard to get started on anything early.

course :ST 431
course rating :4 - Awesome
course comments :Remember the phrase "correlation does not imply casuation" ... experiment design does. Most of the class is based on ANOVA and variants of the standard linear regression formula.
class :Spring 2005 section 002
grade received :N/A
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :Book will be a nice reference item, though was extremely bad for learning material. Lectures were well worth attending; at least half of the classes were hand-ons/small groupwork. No homework. 5 quizzes, 2 tests, 2 written assignments, 1 small group project.
instructor :Woodard
instructor rating :4 - Awesome
instructor comments :I hope he stays around NC State. Most of the examples he used were extremely relevant to the lecture at hand. He is also one of those more personable instructors, joking with students, but still remaining professional in teaching.

course :ST 431
course rating :3 - Good
course comments :Experimental design. (ANOVA, f-tests, block designs, factorial designs, line of best fit)
class :Spring 2005 section 002
grade received :B
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :You should print out the note outlines and go to class often for this course. His powerpoints in class go right by those notes (with you filling in the blanks). There is little work outside of class, but he frequently gives participation assignments (like a group worksheet) in class, so it's worth your time to go. Book isn't necessary if you have another that explains AVOVA, etc. and you keep up with class. You'll need to know SAS for this, or at least proc GLM and the basics.

course :ST 101
course rating :2 - Average
course comments :Really basic statistics. The course focused mostly on statistics in the media and other "real world" situations.
class :Fall 2005 section 001
grade received :B
class rating :3 - Good
class comments :Grade is from: midterm, final, three papers, weekly quizzes on WebCT, group work in class. Never opened the textbook. Note outlines and study guides are online. No attendence policy per se - but in-class work is graded.
instructor :Woodard
instructor rating :3 - Good
instructor comments :Cool, guy, friendly, explains the material clearly enough for math-impaired people like me. I think he curved the final grade.
