I would be sooooo bored after an hour of touch-screen test... make it $50 and we'd be in business 1/11/2007 11:16:28 PM |

I lose more than $15 if I gave up an hour for this.
Besides I was going to do a memory study anyway, but then I forgot. . . . 1/12/2007 3:19:50 AM |

Look guys, if you think this is a ripoff then don't do it, thats fine. But don't talk crap about it.
We're looking for [i]volunteers[i] so this obviously isn't going to be the best money you've ever made. We need at least 1000 volunteers so we're already looking at using $15,000 of our grant to pay people. I'd love to pay you each $50 if i could, but thats not how science, especially at a public university, works. If this were a private company with billions of dollars it might be different, but we have to apply for grants for all this, and it's not the easiest thing to get them.
So please, if you guys want to help advance our knowledge of how memory is different between people, that'd be great. And if not, then just move on. 1/12/2007 9:44:51 AM |

LOL. Either your not very good at getting grants or your research just isn't that interesting.
When my group takes volunteers, we pay them about the same, but it only takes 20/30min.
Good luck finding suckers to be apart of this.1/12/2007 10:50:52 AM |

You are a graduate student and are still knocking other people's research? That's just sad.
And from a marketing standpoint, $15 won't sell. You need to come up with something a bit more creative to make it work. I think it was food science (or something similar) did taste tests in Withers two years ago and it worked out EXTREMELY well. Their key was having folks work in rotations during peak hours (10am-4pm generally). I think they gave out $5 Food Lion cards for 15-20 minutes of a person's time. Granted, you are under different circumstances, but if you want to make this work, you need to market it better.

Works for me. Sometimes I like to, you know, help out, and not bitch about opportunities. 1/22/2007 8:10:31 PM |
